And you're right that most country girls do know how to shoot a rifle. I am and I do, so I certainly shared Cain's appreciation for DG. :-)

I'm not sure how you do it, but one thing is certain: if you ever decide to write more Tin Man, I'll be there. :-)

Sheesh, with a oneshot like this, you'd think you'd been in the fandom since the beginning. This was very well done. The combination of the reality of the post-Eclipse O.Z. and that wonderfully addicting Cain/DG UST can be a hard balance to find, but you did it beautifully here.

Their characterizations were absolutely spot-on; bravo to you on that! I especially enjoyed seeing how mature DG has come in her time in the Zone. Your descriptions were also delicious; I love the visuals you provide about being in the trenches and the "she drew herself up, trying to look as royal as a woman covered in dirt, sweast, and blood could..." was especially good.
