 Shizuku Tsukishima749 2009-10-24 . chapter 1Aw!
I love Lu/Eustace-centered stories! They're so sweet, and I LOVE this very much!
I adored the philosophical-ness of this oneshot! Lu and Eustace's relationship was strained in the book before his transformation, that's obvious, but it's also obvious that he becomes beautiful through it (as you were saying here)!
I really love that point they made, and the fact that Eustace thought Lu was prettier than Su ever was...so sweet! Rock on!! ^U^ *U*
Ever-so sincerely signed,
Shizuku Tsukishima :D ;D :) ;) |
Queen Su 2009-10-17 . chapter 1Good job! :) This was a beautiful story. (No pun intended. lol.) :) Eustace and Lu were in their characters. Great work!
All for Aslan,
Queen Susan the Gentle |
0WannabeWriter0 2009-09-19 . chapter 1I like it! I can imagine Eustace's transformation. And I like how Lucy and Eustace are bonding.
I really like how Lucy pointed out the difference between beauty of the outside appearance and beauty from the inside. And that it's the beauty inside that matters. And that it's Aslan who changed Eustace and Lucy to be beautiful inside. |
snowstargirl 2009-09-02 . chapter 1That was lovely! I could just see Eustace and Lucy talking to each other. They were very much in-character, and I think you displayed their feelings perfectly! |
hester gray 2009-09-02 . chapter 1 very nice-even if it is philosophical =)

barelypassing4sane 2009-08-20 . chapter 1I could have sworn I reviewed this before, well I guess not so I will now.
In my mind I can perfectly see Eustace pinning butterfly's to a card.
I've always seen Lucy as someone who looked decent when they where younger but grew up to be beautiful when they where older. But not in the same way Susan is beautiful. Susan = classic beauty, sort of porcelain dollish. I see more sharp features and eyes that look like they can pierce your soul for Lucy.
Anyways back to your story; I think you got Eustace in character and his remark about never really seeing things back in England was spot on.
‘beautifying’ hehehehe |
CompanionWanderer 2009-05-23 . chapter 1Oh, another beautiful vignette.
What a nice way of taking one of those descriptive elements of nastyEustace and turning it on its head as part of his transformation. So simple, and elegant in its brevity. I love the line about his thinking Lucy prettier than Susan in the moment of her revelation. It's so true, the way inner beauty lights up its bearer and outshines those who only possess pretty faces. Not something Eustace would have noticed in his old mode. |
Eustacegirl 2009-03-21 . chapter 1I like this but I just want ot make sure you know feminie beauty is not vain. but anyho I love Lucy and Eustace bonding. I think they do become closer in VODT and I would love to see more EUstace/Lucy bonding |
HollywdLiz 2008-12-29 . chapter 1I hate to repeat myself, but: Eustace! I love Eustace! This was a lovely little vignette that fits right in with the rest of "Dawn Treader." I adore these short pieces that explore so much about the characters in such a small space. Well done. |
Thessaly 2008-11-22 . chapter 1Oh, this is really nice and I love that you're, what's the right word here, using restraint. The temptation to fangirl everything doesn't take over: you make your point and then you stop. It's very clean.
"I wouldn’t have seen them even if they were there." This is just a great way to get at what makes Eustace so - Eustace-y. And your Lucy is spot-on. Well done! |
 Emerald Princess 14 2008-08-08 . chapter 1Hey, a very nice sweet fanfic,
There should be more Eustace along with the 5 Pevensie's (Caspian included)!
Well Done! |
The North Wyn 2008-08-08 . chapter 1Wow! That's really good. It actually sounds like something C.S. Lewis would have written.
My two favorite parts:
Lucy bit her lip. “I don’t think that’s the right kind of beauty,” she said hesitantly. “I’ve always been jealous of Su,” she blurted out in a rush. “But I think I’m finally starting to learn—or Aslan is teaching me, I should say—that beauty is more than just a pretty face.”
Eustace nodded. “I think I’m starting to realize that, too.” He wondered if this was something Aslan was teaching him, or if it was presumption on his part to think the Lion would teach him anything.
And:
“Do you want to pin them on a card now?” Lucy asked him softly.
Eustace shook his head. “No,” he replied simply. And though he couldn’t see it, his plain schoolboy face looked almost beautiful as he spoke.
Fantastic job! |
EstellaB 2008-08-07 . chapter 1Oh... Instant favourite. I've always had Eustace pegged as a science geek, so the connection with the butterflies made me happy :D I enjoyed the philosophicalness of it! Particularly the bit where Lucy confesses about being jealous of Susan; I don't know why, but it just seems RIGHT that she tells Eustace, rather than anyone else. I loved the ending, as well; "Do you want to pin them on a card now?" "No."
Oh, Eustace. How I love you :)
Thanks for writing this! Reading it made my rubbish day much better. |
Elanor Joy 2008-08-07 . chapter 1That was positively lovely. I'm glad you let it get philosophical. I particularly liked the bit about Aslan 'beautifying" all of us. It's a really great line. Thanks for posting this, it's terrific. God bless! |
Andi Horton 2008-08-07 . chapter 1Look at you! Letting the kids run roughshod over your plans for them . . . you're going to fit into this section just FINE :P (I also looked at your profile for the first time in forever and realised you've already written two fics here, and I can't figure out how they slipped past me but I will be going over to remedy that directly)
This is a lovely conversation, and it's a perfect way to illustrate not only the transition Eustace has undergone, but also Lucy's frustrations with her own place in her family and Susan's particular brand of beauty. The thing about Susan's type of beauty (as Lewis has shown us already in HHB) is that it can get you into all sorts of trouble because it's the kind of thing the world sees. The sort of quiet, true, utterly transforming beauty that is held up here . . . it's so very lovely, and so very Lewis.
Beautiful! |
