Aw. Very sweet. Very good description of the pain that Sam HAD to be feeling after all that, too. Tough epi, but one of the good ones. I actually liked Ruby in that. Katie could make her sympathetic sometimes.

I'm actually a little surprised that Dean didn't run back to get Sam, but then he couldn't with the drinks. :D No way he was going to just sit and wait for the big lug.

Gah, you're going to thoroughly kill me with the big brotherly love! Not that I'm complaining. The last two paragraphs were especially poignant and therefore, my favorite. You're so good at picking up on the little nuances of the show and then fitting them with details. Like the whole back deal: never would have thought up that Sam's back had been pressurized and compressed until I read it here. Then of course I think, "Oh right! That -would- really hurt!"

I liked this mini-wrap-up of the episode. :) Very nice.

And I loved the little line-Dean calls Ruby Sam's girlfriend, and he thinks "If Ruby had saved Dean’s life, she could be whatever she wanted." I just found that ironic, considering where the show's ventured in season four... :)

I think Dean's protectivness against Sam is rubbing off on me because I found it midly disturbing when he took off without Sam LOL

But this was another good story. I loved how Sam realized he needed to be/do the good stuff Dean is/does too. not just be a kick ass hunter, and I loved that he decided to be "Sammy" again, even if it was for just one night. :)

I liked how you addressed some of the things that might have seemed like inconsistencies in the episode: Tammy being able to stop the bullet, Dean and Ruby turning up at the house so quickly even though Sam had the car, etc. Nicely done!

This was perfect. It fits perfectly into the gap between the boys leaving the house and Sam splashing water in his face. I don't know what my favorite part was - Dean walking back for Sam instead of driving to avoid the same dilemma or the last two paragraphs. You are so right. There is the caring, loving Dean for Sam to emulate not just the shoot from the hip Dean. I love that you pointed that out. And I also think that Sam didn't tell Dean about the "big bad" that wanted him dead because what was the point in making Dean worry about it for the short time he had left. At that point that secret could only worry or freak his brother out. And the stronger Sam gets the less we seem to see of Sammy. I miss those. Thanks for giving them to us. And thanks so much for this.

Poor Sam - you really felt his despair in that ep. I'm glad you had him realize Dean is more than a cold hearted hunter.

Oh dear, you about killed me with the last two paragraphs. It does seem Sam is forgetting that Dean's strength is his unconditional love of his family, but then again, who is left of Sam's family once Dean is gone?

And the last paragraph? Sniff. I MISS Sammy. I love a strong Sam, but the glimpses of Sammy that we get our bittersweet. What a wonderful way to summarize the fact that he isn't really giving himself the luxury of being Sammy even now that Dean is offering it again.

Stories like this beautifully fill in the gaps left by TV's SN - sometimes frustratingly so. This was one of those moments where I wanted a little more time spent on the fallout from Sam being crushed against the wall. Logically, I know why they did what they did but that doesn't make me crave a little caring Dean and battered Sam any less.

Loved the peek inside Sam's head in this one - and the little touches, like Dean bringing Sam tea. A subtle yet powerful illustration of the kind of (complex, natch) relationship the two share.
