That was amazing. Exactly how I would imagine River thinks - cohesive enough to understand (mostly,) but disjointed enough to make us understand what her brain has been through (a little.) I would love to read more stories, long or short, written in this style, from this perspective. You've really got it nailed down.

Brief and brimful: I like that. Of course, the dinosaurs would bring on the encounter. Stands to rights. Catching River off guard, in the only simple way possible, is just like Mal.They stay in character, too, in finding their respective means of redirection.

Oh, poor Mal -- I can just see him standing there with the dinosaurs after he chases River off, adding one more thing to the list of things he thinks he's done wrong...

This is really lovely. I like River's bewilderment, Mal being stiff and difficult in his grief and anger. Your language is both specific and poetic - you tell a lot in a very few words.

Lovely little tale. Mal would have found it very hard not to blame himself, but I think he would have been sorry for talking to River in any harsh form. But I love the way he didn't apologise, just let her in a little, and proved, without saying a word, that she was part of the crew, no matter what.

This was a wonderful little one-shot. It held so much emotion, regardless of it's length, and the characterization was superb. And it made me tear up. Wash was always my favorite.
