sockette 2009-09-15 . chapter 1 I know you're quiet busy with the little ones, but just decided to drop a line about how much I still enjoy this, and how glad I am to see that, eventually, it will be completed. Health and happiness to you and your family! |
aussiesheila47 2009-07-01 . chapter 23OK, I'd watched the chapter count for this story go up and up. The summary kinda turned me off because I didn't know how AU it would be. (And I'm very glad to find that it's not AU at all). Finally I took the plunge, and I'm very glad that I did.
This story is amazing. In a category full of P&P moderns (shudder) it really stands out. Cass, as a heroine, is great as a more overt feminist than Austen's heroines, without being too anachronistic and out-of-place (which I abhor in a period piece), though of course her name shows her to be a prophetess of the freedoms which we women enjoy today, at least in the Western world. I can see bits of all Austen's heroines hybridised in Cass - Elinor's empathy, Marianne's impulsiveness, Elizabeth's sense of humour, Emma's independance, Fanny's moral compass, Anne's warmth, and Catherine's naivity. And they're mixed really well, without neon signs pointing to the various traits.
All the characters seem very real, the tone feels just right and it's really well written.
Please update soon! I would also love to see something from Jamie's pen, asl well. |
LadyDandelion 2009-06-26 . chapter 23I love this story. Can't wait to see how things turn out. :) |
sockette 2009-06-25 . chapter 22 Oh dear! I think I will burst of frustration myself! Well, curiousity more like. Thanks for another couple intriguing, excellent letters! I can't wait to hear more. |
Sockette 2009-05-07 . chapter 19 Thanks again! I feel I should keep dropping a line to let you know how this story is appreciated, and how eagerly I await more installments. |
Sockette 2009-04-08 . chapter 15 Thank you for these quick updates! I am very much on tenderhooks, waiting to see where this story will go, so it's always exciting to see a new "letter" has arrived. |
sockette 2009-04-06 . chapter 1 I love, love, love this story so far! Your characters are interesting, and appear well rounded despite the limitations of your structure... It is very difficult to write letters that feel like letters, while still giving your readership enough information to really feel plot and character development. And the phrasing/language is just lovely - very period appropriate, without any of that awkwardness that so often becomes apparent when a modern writer imitates literary eras past. Thank you! |
 Sarahbarr17 2009-04-04 . chapter 11Good to see another chapter!

Laurie1 2009-04-03 . chapter 11I'm delighted that you are returning to this story! There are so few good MP fics out there, and I believe this is the first "next generation" one that I have read. Cass is delightful, and I think you have sketched the growth (or lack thereof) of the familiar characters spot-on. Do continue! |
 emily-in-the-glass 2008-09-27 . chapter 10 oh! exciting developments! i hope you update soon. :) |
emily-in-the-glass 2008-09-27 . chapter 9 i know what cass's letters remind me of! i had been wondering for a while. they remind me of emily's diary entries! i had thought that perhaps cass was anne-like, being red-haired and tomboyish, but she really has something of emily in her (that's not to say that she's at all a copy of emily, though) - she is witty, subversive, imperfect but earnest in setting about improving herself. |
emily-in-the-glass 2008-09-27 . chapter 1 oh! i'm excited that cass is quite the opposite of fanny! and i'm glad her idea of morality isn't so black and white as edmund's. as much as i admire edmund and fanny, i always did think they were a little unrealistically moral.
i wonder if isabella is really odious, or if that's just cass's tomboyishness. i should think susan price de lacey(!) had better taste in protegees!
i wonder: are there any siblings in any of the bertram/price families at all? i know it's already quite a caste of characters, but it seems odd for the time period that they are all only children. perhaps there could be younger siblings who are too little to be significant, or older ones who have married and ventured far off into the world?
well, onto the next chapter! |
eitakdid 2008-09-19 . chapter 10I love this story! Please keep writing...it sounds very much like how Jane Austen would write! |
Paija 2008-08-28 . chapter 7 Very nice story!
Who is aunt de Lacey? Fanny's sister Susan perhaps? Maybe you could elaborate, although it is, of course, difficult, when the letters are between cousins, who do not need to tell each other "who is who".
Keep up good work and update soon! |
Sarahbarr17 2008-08-27 . chapter 7This is really enjoyable - keep up the good work! |
