PlayKate 2009-10-04 . chapter 1wonderful story. I enjoyed every bit. Best Ellen POV I've ever read. |
PADavis 2009-06-11 . chapter 1I'm not sure how I missed this. It just got picked up by a C2 and here I am. Stunning. I miss Ellen, and felt cheated when she didn't show up on NRFTW. Your voice for her was pitch perfect. This was beautifully written, evocative, harsh, cruiel, loving, and gorgeous.

Holly Lukeman 2009-02-07 . chapter 1You have a really great story, here. When I first saw it, I was a little dubious about it, but once I started I simply couldn't stop reading it until it was finished. I didn't know that Ellen was supposed to be in the S3 finale, but I wish she had been. I like her character and would love to see her come back.
Your story has a great plot, fantastic characterization - which is absolutely key - and has a well-balanced amount of pathos stirred in. I think this is a great alternative to what actually happened after 3.16, and to be honest I would have been just as happy with this as I am with the canon.
Great work. |
Dahlia Hertz 2008-12-09 . chapter 1 This was awesome! I am a big fan of Ellen's too, though not so much Jo's and I was dissapointed that she wasn't back in the third or fourth season (so far). I sincerly hope that she comes back soon, if not please write more stories with her and maybe Jo as well. |
StealthLiberal 2008-11-13 . chapter 1Oh My G-d! This was fantastic. While I don't think Ellen would be siting out the war in suburbia, you have captured her character in all other ways perfectly.
If only we could see Ellen and Jo again on the show. Alas, Kripke has fallen to the whims of underage fangirls and I don't think we'll ever hear from them again. If nothing else, you have written the perfect eulogy for them. |
KelBub 2008-08-27 . chapter 1I've said it before and I'll say it again. You're one of the best writers on this site (and probably in the whole Supernatural fandom!). I've loved your every story. Some are brilliant but most are more than brilliant. This story is definitely one of your best. I loved how you portrayed Ellen. She felt real. I'm a Dean-girl and as usual you write Dean in a way that makes me melt.
This story was intense, heartbreaking, hopeful and scary all in one. Good job! How you don't get 300 reviews per chapter I'll never know... |
Lisette 2008-08-27 . chapter 1This is a beautiful story, plain and simple. I wish I could be eloquent right now, but elegance is too hard to come by when I'm so overwhelmed by the story that was just presented.
Ellen Harvelle. What an unfortunate, underused character in the SPN realm. She's a dichotomy: so tough, layers of motherly love and caring, headstrong, and so bruised and battered by the loss of her husband, the abandonment by her daughter, and the loss of her business, her home, and some of her dearest friends. It's was a travesty when the producers of SPN replaced such an honest, well-rounded character with the Barbie dolls of last season, but here... here you finally gave us a vision of Ellen and what could have come after.
You have captured Ellen's voice better than any other attempt I have ever read. I felt like I was truly in the character's mind here, and you did a huge credit to the SPN universe and the actress. I didn't so much read this story, as it unfolded before my mind's eye and I watched it unravel before me. And the ability to see the brother's through another's eye is another priceless gift for which I give my thanks.
Dean. Damn... while tough to read about a beloved character that is so broken, I think that yours has become my newest hope for what this new season has the potential to bring. Yes, Dean is battered, body and soul, but you've still given us DEAN. This is the Dean that we know and love, not something that has become dark and twisted because of his time in hell. With this Dean we are given hope for the future - hope that they can return to some version of the brotherly dynamic that we know and love. You carried Dean through a hellish experience and you didn't break him - you left him intact and I thank you for that. Talk about hope for the next season!
Sam. Sam brought his brother back from the dead with a messiah-like ability, and yet you kept Sam as SAM and didn't make him go dark-side. THANK YOU FOR THAT! I'm so tired of reading about darkside Sams and Deans that I've almost given up on reading SPN fanfic until Kripke can finally put these awful possibilities to rest. You gave Sam Uber!Sam capabilities, but you kept him the same hurting, angst-ridden but loving Sam that we all fell in love with.
And he freaking raised Dean from the dead.
Seriously.
I think my brain short circuits on this thread, so perhaps I'll just leave it at that. THANK YOU for writing this story, for posting it, and for lifting some of the darkness from the SPN universe. Yes, we like seeing our favorite characters get battered and beaten, but the key point is to never break them. At least, not permanently. It's not about the breaking, but about how they overcome the obstacles put before them and put those pieces back together with as much humor, pizzazz, and **-kickage as humanly possible.
And having it all done to some great classic rock doesn't hurt, either.
WELL DONE! |
 Aimed mischief 2008-08-27 . chapter 1Wow, gorgeous fic. :D |
Deanish 2008-08-24 . chapter 1This was god. I'm not a huge Ellen fan -- don't care much either way for her. But I liked her a lot here. Very nice. |
Tears of Trees 2008-08-24 . chapter 1That was so sweet, I'm crying now. Because it was just like the best thing I've read. And the one part that I loved, absolutly loved was with Sam, and how he saw Dean in a peaceful place :) It was just the sweeteset thing ever, and you hit Ellen spot on :) |
 alwaysateen 2008-08-24 . chapter 1Wow! Amazing story!
So Sam has bring Dean back from Heaven the second time? Like Buffy? I surely hope Dean doesn't remember his time there because life is gonna be even more painful then before...
Awesome job with this story! |
 Agent Five 2008-08-23 . chapter 1Wow ... that was beyond amazing ... I'm stunned ...
Just gorgeous.
I love the whole premise of the piece and it's written so well. The emotion is necessary but evenly paced and realistic in it's depiction. The conclusion brought tears to my eyes. It makes so much sense tho. Kripke has Demons firmly placed within the whole mythology of the show and has only briefly touched at the edge of the existence of Angels. He could do far worse than dabble in something of this nature. Your creation of Sam's epiphany here is just fabulous.
And Ellen is perfect. Having met Sam at Asylum, and heard her speak so passionately of her alter-ego, you have captured her mannerisms, thought processes and persona so well. I could hear her voice throughout the piece.
Your defeated Dean was so hard to read but also so very real. It was hard to think that he had actually passed into a better place that last time. It reminded me of when Willow brought Buffy back from Heaven. So poignant.
Fantastic writing. A joy to read. |
JennK528 2008-08-23 . chapter 1I just loved Ellen's voice in this. And I loved your wrenchingly vulnerable Dean. The line about Ellen seeing his tears because she's a mom - well, that just about broke my heart. The snark between them was just right - Dean scared but still flirtatious, and Ellen ready to go down fighting.
Such a bittersweet ending, too, both boys hurting and needing each other. Beautifully done. |
