Great depiction of orcs! The second paragraph made me howl with laughter-- it's rare to see orcs presented as having any sort of training (apparently killing comes naturally to them?) or any more advanced form of organization other than "hey, you do what I say and I won't chew your foot off." It's both sad and funny to get a glimpse of the what the orcs consider virtues, and see how an orc-mind works.

I did feel rather sad at poor Gorp's untimely death, just when he thought he had escaped, although he had seemed to live a rather charmed life until then! Actually, I had always rather believed that orcs would enjoy maggoty bread, it seemed quite a fitting food for them, but perhaps even they have their limits. However, you have left me extremely curious about what his 'fairly plausible excuse' for his absence during the Rohirrim ambush was.
