I was so excited to run across this. Despite what I said in my review of your last story, about it ending rather abruptly, I really did enjoy it. I am so glad you took it to another level, and gave us this dark and heartwrenching prequel. Excellent job, and I cannot wait to read the last part.

Great writing. The words and the characters and the plot- i really feel their emotions. I loved Neji's POV and Tenten and Lee and the flashbacks with Gai. I loved the last part-
“Do you think Gai-sensei will be proud of us when this is all over?”

He is silent a moment, looking up at the stars twinkling above them. Next to Tenten, Lee turns his head, intent on his answer.

“No,” he says finally, and brings his gaze down from the sky. “He’s always been proud of us.

Now we must be worthy of it.”

It looks like a nasty situation all around. One wonders what will be left after the fighting's done. I suppose that won't matter if none of them live to see it, and things aren't looking very good.

This really isn't comment on your story, but I never figured out how the sound village worked at all. From what I've seen so far(mind you, it's quite a ways from where the story line is), the whole sound ninja corps was based on what Orochimaru could scrounge up and from the land of rice fields, a whole bunch of former convicts, and various mercenaries who were legends in their own mind. It seems like he uses them totally without regard for what happens to them. I can't see how there could be a useful force left after all that. As I said, though, this is a generic comment and has nothing to do with your story.
