I LOVED the confrontation between Clark & Jonathan. I really like seeing Clark develop a will (and backbone) and mind outside of his father's influence. As much as I think Jonathan is a good father, he is very narrow-minded at times and can be judgmental & self-righteous. (Example, if Lex had done what Bruce did with the invitation & credit card, Jonathan would have ranted about Luthors throwing it in their face with their wealth, life style, etc. But since it was someone he admired, he just accepted it as okay.)

I LOVE Clark wanting to be a doctor and I hope you carry this idea forward in this story/universe. I've always loved fics where Clark does something other than become a reporter. (One of my favs is where he becomes a businessman and helps Lex & Lionel run LuthorCorp. It was a great way for Lionel and Clark to bond.) I've always felt with Clark's intelligence that he was wasted at the Planet, and that making Clark Kent into a bumbling accident prone reporter was only a way for Clark Kent to "disappear" and merely become a mask for Superman. How sad is it that in order to become Superman-and fulfill his father's vision of his future-Clark effectively allows his own identity to be sacrificed and loses himself.

I also like how Clark wants to use his brain and not his brawn. You draw this point out very nicely in this chapter. And how Lex puts Clark's saving people as a hobby-like what he does in Smallville now-is a much more healthier way for Clark to have a life yet still fulfill his need to make a difference. And on top of that, his career is one in which he does the same thing. I really like the cyclical nature of the career and life Clark is pondering.

And Yay, Martha! for sticking up for Clark and what he wants to do. Dreams are so important and shouldn't be squashed. And I love seeing Clark and Lex continuing to bond over all that science. Aw! Sweet.

I love this story. Love how you've shown the dynamics of Clark's friends becoming a part of the lives of Clark & Lex, as well as Martha & Jonathan accepting Lex in their lives on their own terms. And I keep getting excited at the hints of Bruce we keep seeing. Yay Bruce! I just got giddy when Bruce claimed that Lex was one of his best friends. It's lovely to see someone else be protective towards Lex, especially a childhood best friend.
