RandomDream 2009-06-23 . chapter 1I recently just watched (and finally got the gist of these crossovers with DIRS) the movie the Dark is Rising, so I finally understood who in the world Will Stanton was.
Another weird, but well-written crossover fic.
Thanks. :) |
NoviceWordsmith 2008-12-20 . chapter 1Your imagery and ideas are gripping, as usual. You are very adept at representing multiple levels of communication and keeping them all coherent. I like the way Stanton thinks; that is, how he responds to input and ideas and how he proceeds from there. I feel the same way towards your works as I feel towards Dorothy Sayers' works: I'd love to meet your characters to talk (as opposed to having an adventure, or having a date).
Your story seems to be based firmly on a concept that was strongly put down by JKR: namely that the pureblood wizards are better (more powerful), and that simply being a member of such a family makes one better. I guess only rabid liberals insist that everybody is 100% equal in all areas at all times, although many Americans have difficulty with the concept of aristrocracy... unless, of course, they themselves are members of the privileged class.
One tiny item about your Author's Note: Chicago has the "El" (as in Elevated Railway). |
achillies-eel 2008-11-10 . chapter 1Wow. COOL. I don't know why I never thought of it; I mean, even though most contries are 'ruled' by presidents, prime ministers, etc., they all had a King or royal family or something that functioned as such at one time in their history. I don't know why I never thought about why the wizarding world never had any either. Maybe I just figured, "Well, they have magic, and the Ministry, so..." -Shrugs-
Interesting concept. Cool of you to point it out. :D I had this feeling that the Blacks were one of the royal families. Must put pressure on Siri to make love and have tons of babies to carry on the family line. :P Lovely one, and I think, as sad as I am to realise this, that I have reached the end of the series. -Cries- It was sincerely awesome and enjoyable. You've had me glued to the computer all day. It's so rare to find stories as good as this in a fandom, no, TWO fandoms that I enjoy. I hope you plan on continuing soon. I'll be watching! |
ElfIcarii 2008-10-10 . chapter 1You enjoyed writing this far too much.
I like it. Keep enjoying writing ^_^ |
 merlyn2 2008-09-28 . chapter 1That was a pleasant surprise, finding a new Elijah's Cup-universe story. Thank you, lembas7. |
socorro 2008-09-26 . chapter 1Love the story. This entire universe is great fun, and Will has alway been a favorite charater.
BTW in Boston the subway is called the 'T' regardless of what line your on. The 'Metro' is in DC. I have never been on the New York subway but judging by pop culture I think they just call it the subway. |
 valjean 2008-09-24 . chapter 1 Wonderful, as always! :-)
My only complaint is the idea of uninterrupted pure-blood lineages going back as far ancient times. Even if there is intermarriage between the High Families, that's still way too small a population. The genetic make-up of the modern generations must be an absolute nightmare. You can see the disastrous effects of inbreeding in the pedigrees of some of the European royal families, and their lineages don't go back as far as the fictional wizarding families of the story. Too have *that* much inbreeding within *such* a small population...yikes...O_0 |
Kpopophile 2008-09-16 . chapter 1in boston its called the T.just a bit of info. wow will is persistant in his learning.wonder what info he will find out. |
trecebo 2008-09-14 . chapter 1I had started this, and had to halt my reading due to life. I am just getting done with it and am intrigued. Which book should I read to acquaint myself with Mr. Stanton? I get the gist of his character, but would like to know a wee bit more, if you please.
Also, chocolate carrots for the Plot Bunniez. May ever they reign! |
JediClaire 2008-09-12 . chapter 1Fantastic and brillant. Black is on his way to becoming my all time favorite character. What about the Puppy though? |
Sol 2008-09-11 . chapter 1 It's the T in Boston (the colors are just the different lines you can travel on to get to different places, but T is the general term), and it's the subway in New York, and the Metro in DC (and Montreal).
One of these days I'm going to actually read these books... Aside from not knowing anything about them, I liked this anyway. Good job! |
Pandora of Ithilien 2008-09-10 . chapter 1even when you being to answer the questions you've already given us, you give us more to wonder at. i have to admit that the high families were a lot more - dramatic - than i expected. i figured they were wizarding royalty, but not the whole magic part. i wonder if that's why sirius seemed to discourage hermione from using the ma'at spell, because he doesn't want people noticing it.
and as for the families themselves... ok, we know the blacks are one, i'd bet a large sum the malfoys are another, and maybe the lestranges, hell, even the zabinis or the longbottoms. a key question would be what about the potters? from what you said in where the heart is i doubt it, but i guess it's possible. not that harry'd count, what with lily being muggle-born, but still.
the part of the conversation centering on dumbledore was telling, will's right, even children sometimes have to stand up, but it should be their choice. and speaking of children in the plural, who exactly is sirius referring to? harry, obviously, but who else? ron and hermione? maybe neville? he is the other potential for the prophecy, and while jkr just meant him to be the 'might have been' you are clearly not her (this is not an insult or compliment, just blunt fact; i find your version of her world and her original to be different enough that comparison is unfair) and i wonder if you might have more in mind for neville. also, i'm glad SOMEONE'S picked up on the ridiculous hiring system at hogwarts. i do hope you write something about will's reaction to what he discovers.
some other random thoughts. you really meant it what you said your world would part ways from canon entirely after covering GOF, didn't you? after all, the diagon alley attack... and skeeter's a headliner? damn, i hope she didn't oust rob. one other question: did you bring up the puppy just for fun, or was there a point? it just seemed like the little guy popped up too much. my mind wnet in one direction, of course, seeing as it's summer and all, so we would expect sirius to have company... ;) oh, and did i forget to mention this was absolutely brilliant? sorry about the rambl |
Caitriona3 2008-09-10 . chapter 1Fabulous!! I am so excited to see the continuation of this story line. I enjoyed this story - the interaction between Sirius and Will was very dramatic. The underlying tension - both of them keeping secrets - makes you sit on edge to see how it goes. Dumbledore - the treatment of Dumbledore in this storyline is very effective. The "ends justify the means" type attitude is much more believable than other stories that use a more selfish, egotistical one. Entrapment is an evil thing when it forces someone into a dangerous battle. In an earlier story, you reflected this type of attitude with how Dumbledore contacted Susan. Again, very effectively handled. Thanks to the little scene with Crumbil, we have a compare/contrast between Sirius and Dumbledore - Sirius accepts Crumbil's choice and tries to find the best, most moral answer.
Thank you for pointing out what many people miss in Dumbledore's hiring practices. After the issue with Quirrell, wouldn't you think that a stronger form of magical testing would have been performed on any one starting to teach at Hogwarts? Knowing how deeply Voldemort and his Death Eaters depended on deception, and after the possession of Quirrell, wouldn't you think they would truth test anyone they allowed near the children? I enjoy the books very much, but the adults portrayed often make my teeth itch. It is no wonder my favorites were Sirius, Remus, and the Weasleys. At least they asked questions or argued a situation.
"Laws of Magical Britain" and history - will this be followed up on? I would be interested to see the intersection myself. I love history, so it will be fascinating to see your translation of history into the magical world.
Question - no schism between Muggle & Magical in the US? I hope that might be explored in the future. |
Long Live Nelly 2008-09-10 . chapter 1I've said it before and I'll say it again - I love your writing style. Very compelling, and I love the fascinating direction this is taking. Your Sirius is very interesting, I like his philosophies. |
Cymru na Alethaira 2008-09-10 . chapter 1WOHO! Cool. Love your philosophical take there!
Dumbledore's Light v. Will v. Sirius ideologically.
