Before I actually begin my actual review, please let me begin by saying that I am not a fan of the Naruto series. To be honest, I have only read very few episodes of the anime and have never read the manga. I'm not exactly a big fan of shounen and I don't like how most of the manga on Shounen Jump tend to be too commercialized and it disappoints me to whenever I see promising series which lose their flair eventually because they either become too rushed in terms of pacing, too persistent on trying to please the readers, too drawn out, or just plain lacking in paying attention to minute details (which therefore seems to put certain plot points to clash with each other). Granted all of these reasons, you must be confused as to why I managed to read your stories. Well the thing is, I've been having a very difficult time finding fanfiction that I can actually enjoy. Nowadays, I normally try to content myself with stories that I actually find mediocre just so I'd have something to read to pass time. I've practically exhausted all the decent stories in the fandoms that I'm actually interested in so I thought that perhaps I could find something better if I read fanfiction on a series that I'm not exactly a fan of that's why here I am now, reviewing one of your many stunning works.
While Naruto is a series that has never really interested me enough for me to actually bother to catch up with the manga/anime, I do know the basic gist of it. Moreover, it's a convenient fandom to enter because I can just Google my questions whenever I find plot points in the manga which I'm not familiar with or characters whose names I have never heard before. And so, I decided that I should give it a try and boy am I ever so glad that I did. I first started with your one-shot - Hokage-sama and I found myself enjoying it. It was incredibly well written and I found myself enjoying your brand of humor. As of now, I've practically read almost all of your KakaSaku completed work (save for the angst one since I'm not a very big fan of angsty stories as well as 'The Empress') and am on my way to reading your WIP stories as well. And I must say that I absolutely love your writing. Actually, to say that I absolutely love it might even be an understatement. I'm truly gripped by your work, after all. In all honesty, out of all your stories I've read, it's only 'Nymph' that I didn't love as much - not because it isn't good. it's just that i don't particularly favor the style of it. I prefer the lighter tone that you use in most of your other stories. Out of all your stories, I enjoy your many-chaptered ones the mosts - namely Duty Before Honor, House of Crows, and The Window and out of all of those, I like House of Crows the most which is why I'm leaving my review here (albeit my review is technically written for all of your works which I have read thus far). Honestly, I don't read reviews often but that's mostly because I either don't have much time or I just simply don't find the story gripping enough but granted that those two conditions are not being met now, I thought that it would only be right for me to express my gratitude in a more apt manner.
As of now, you are probably my favorite author in . I have only said this once to another author here. She was the first one who has ever been able to write something that I knew I would like to read not just once but multiple times. And right now, I can say the same for you and your stories. Actually I have already read Hokage-sama twice even while I'm still in the process of reading your other works and have ony finished reading The Window a couple of hours ago.
As I've said before I love your style of writing. I love the fact that while the main genre is Drama/Romance, you are still able to make it fairly light and humorous such that it wouldn't be too heavy for the reader. You play out the lines so well such that emotions don't become too saturated to the point that it becomes difficult to continue reading without feeling like the story is taking it's toll on me. I actually cried a lot when I was reading The Window earlier but I never found it too heavy for me to stop reading.
I also like how you give thorough attention to details and how you seem to have everything neatly mapped up such as what you did for Karasu's character. I can actually remember thinking a while ago as I was reading The Window that it seems to me that with you, every event in the story is carefully planned out such that when you look back on the events that have transpired upon reaching then end of the story, everything makes sense. Very few people are able to give me that feeling on . Even the author I've mentioned before was not able to make me feel that way albeit the witty dialogues in her stories were more than able to make up for it. And while we're on the topic, I love your dialogues - mostly those exchange between Sakura and Kakashi. There's so much witty banter between them which makes their pairing so appealing. It's because of you that I really ship them together now albeit my lack of knowledge in the series. And as for basic writing skills, you're more than adequate. I've actually learned quite a lot of words from you as I went about reading your stories (my favorite would have to be pareidoliac).
Admittedly, there were still a few mistakes spelling/grammar-wise but they're pretty much neglegible as well as understandable considering that you're writing very lengthy chapters. The only thing that I think must be pointed out would probably be the lack of sufficient visual descriptions of characters. Understandably, it's not really a must to provide a thorough description of the in-story characters but I found that at some moments, I couldn't quite picture all your OCs entirely - which is my main concern for House of Crows since the story includes a great number OCs for a big chunk of it. Also, on a less serious note, I can never forget how bothered I am when you didn't reveal the color of Enoki's hair. (-insert laugh here-). It's not exactly a big deal but I was really hoping that you'd reveal the color in the epilogue mainly because you emphasized it in the end of the previous chapter. I actually combed through the epilogue a second time just to make sure that I didn't just manage to miss reading it.
Anyway, this is probably the lengthiest review I have managed to write up until now Without a doubt, it still is not as comprehensive as I wish it was but my brain is slowly dying due to the insane heat so I'm afraid I must stop soon. Really though. I want to express my deepest gratitude to you for writing these stories of yours and sharing it to the ever you do publish original work, without a doubt, I will find a way to purchase it (if you would be so kind enough to provide your name/penname). I see that you haven't updated your most recent stuff for a long time now. I just hope that there is nothing wrong and that you'll still continue writing because it gives others so much joy. Actually, because of you, I might even give the Naruto fandom a shot once I manage to get a better internet connection.
Again, thank you so much for all your work and I hope I can read more from you in the future!
This story was simply fantastic. Usually with stories that are this long they tend to drag quite a bit, but you made the one flow perfectly. I rather enjoyed how you portrayed Kakashi's personality and how he would deal with the obstacles that he was faced with. All in all, great job, there is not one critical thing I can say about this fanfiction.
This was truly a lovely story. I am so glad that it was drawn out. You were extremely descriptive and everything was very well planned out. I remember you writing in one of the first chapters that you had this all planned out and had been wanting to write it for some time before you first published it. I give you kudos for writing a fiction this long and with such long chapters. I was just blown away. I love how they ended up together along with the fact that they didn't live "happily ever after" they were just a normal couple, which meant they had their own problems. But I could tell their love had grown for one another. Gosh, I am just so pleased with your story and I can't wait to read more of them. Thank you again for dedicating much of you time to this story, you really succeeded with this one. Excellent!
Evil I tell you...I have been almost dying as I read through this! I was so confused at the beginning about who the father was. I almost died when I thought it could be Sasuke, but now that I am getting bits of info it is helping me. I hope more will be explained in future chapters, which I know you will. Lovely so far, I am just so taken with this story.
I've read this fanfiction 3 times. It is the most wonderful piece I have ever read and it was what brought me to absolutely adore KakaSaku, along with all your other fanfiction. You are such an amazing writer and I'd really wish you would write another equally amazing story. I look forward to the time when I look at my alerts and see a new story written by you.
So I thank you for introducing me to Kakasaku and for keeping me entertained and sleepless for many hours.
SUPERB. I think Kishimoto would seriously benefit from having you on his writing team. I love that you keep them in character. Actually, they have even more vivid personalities than in the actual anime/manga. And what an imagination you have! Even the original characters were excellent, not to mention the Rokubi. EPIC!
Absolutely the best story I've read in a long time if not ever. Seriously.
I don't think I have ever needed a damn box of tissues for a fanfiction before!
Anyway, this story was structurally brilliant! You didn't reveal too much and you kept a perfect emotional stride throughout. Because you paced everything so perfectly, the relationships seemed all the more important and (dare I say it) real.
It took four days to read through everything, but every second was worth it.
There were lots of twists and turns! I really enjoyed this story and not knowing what would come next is really what kept me hooked. You should however go through again and edit it. There are sentences that don't quite make sense. Sometimes it's just he instead of she other times you leave out an important word. It's easy to get around but there's a moment I look at it funny. Like with Girl of the Whirlpool I love the characters and you've kept them in character. most of all I really love what you've done with Kakashi's family and history.
On the whole it's a very enjoyable story, and probably my favorite one that you've written. I'm going to read it again now!
*tears a lot* Goodness, you are GOOD. Normally, just about everything this story has drives me nuts when other people try to write it. Epilogues, for example, are usually pointless things. "A few years later they really are living happily ever after, here are the boring details." But in your hands you explain it's not a happily ever after, it's the consequences that are being played out and here's some idea of what they're like. Bravo!
Damn. When you go there, you GO there. I was anticipating a terrific fight between Kakashi & Kurasu, but one that wouldn't go to Kurasu's death... Again with the big time surprises. wow.
