I'm glad Jack didn't go back to Chase. I really like that your Jack has a real personality, and he's growing into a different kind of person than he was before. Chase's attitude and view of the situation (and the old Jack) fit very well. He's an unbelievably old, powerful sorcerer-type who is used to getting his way, and forcing whatever doesn't come willingly. Even his temporary dependance on Jack and the multiple life-threatening rescues included didn't make him think of Jack in a new way. This sudden rejection is like having the jam jar explode when you open it. Wholly unexpected, messy, and aggravating. I'm very interested in seeing how Chase reacts later and what their relationship will be like, should they have one, now that Jack's on a more even emotional footing.

And I love Nana Spicer and RJ13. A perverted would-be sex-bot android and a loving grandmother who fights for the Dark Side, cheats, binge drinks, and has a grenade collection. They're the perfect characters for the tone of your story. Being so damned funny doesn't hurt a bit. :D
