bookivore 2009-11-19 . chapter 27I've been enjoying this story so far and on the latest update had to reread. I suddenly wondered about the Horcruxes for the other members of the inner circle. Bellatrix, for one, should not come back. Also, the ones currently in prison (Malfoy) should have their Horcruxes destroyed / reintegrated. Offering the opportunity to use White Magic to cleanse them of Dark Magic would be generous and possibly wise. Society isn't in the business of rewarding Good and punishing Evil, no matter how JKR wrote it (and the Ministry isn't), it is in the business of making things work, and removing antisocial impulses might be very helpful. In other words, your story has interesting implications. |
Kirinin 2009-10-31 . chapter 2Hermione and Ron are depressingly easy to convince, but then that's very much in their canon characterization, lol! I'm glad you stated that Snape's way of making a Horcrux was different from Voldemort's... it sets my mind at ease to some degree in regards to the Evul, etc.
When we got to "...maybe they were in his head" it gave me pause, though. I came up against a similar dilemma in a story I wrote, so I had to think about this sort of scenario before. It doesn't matter if it was in *Snape's* head... it's not like he'd be around to resurrect himself! He would have to make it simple, assuming that the person helping him would not necessarily have his Potions expertise. Ah, okay - I'm reviewing as I'm reading - Snape did leave instruction. That makes more sense. :)
I loved: "...he was tired of Hermione's mollycoddling. He was an adult now, he was aware of the dangers he was facing, and he didn't want or need Hermione's constant badgering." Because, yeah, Harry. You're a *grown-up* now. That's why you're risking your life to resurrect a father you've never known...
There's a weird POV switch with Ron right before they start the ritual to raise Snape. We've only been hearing Harry's point of view up until now, and then there's a rapid Ron POV and then back again. We can tell how Ron's feeling without it.
"I only created the Horcrux at the Dark Lord's insistence..." Ah, that makes so much sense!
And GOOD reaction via Snape! Absolutely, he would not be okay with this. You really nailed his character.
The only other CC I have is that you should likely reduce your italics. Italics are a dramatic device, and over-use of them comes across as over-dramatic. They are not light emphasis on a word, but heavy emphasis. (I tend to write a lot of italics too, then go back and get rid of a lot of them on the read-through.)
<3 Liking this so far! :)

Kirinin 2009-10-31 . chapter 1This is an interesting way of bringing Snape back, but it has pretty horrific implications. Who did Snape kill to make this Horcrux? You'd think that would at least occur to Harry...

 jimmy-barnes-13 2009-10-21 . chapter 27Wonderous chapter, I like how its going :) |
White Wyrsa 2009-10-18 . chapter 27Marvelous chapter! Tnak you, it is very well written. |
Ichigo Mirai 2009-10-17 . chapter 27very very good still! please update whenever you get the chance... |
Agathae 2009-10-17 . chapter 27The chapter was great. Your whole story is really amazing - Snape is so Snapish and we can see how his feelings change and how the relationship between him and Harry is changing. What I really love about your story is the fact that it took them some time to acknowledge their feelings and that Harry didn't start calling Severus 'dad' immediately - it would not seem natural - and your story really sounds believable. This really is what might have happened if JKR hadn't decided to kill Snape (sniff).
Thank you again for the wonderful chapter - I adore how close Snape and Harry are and I would really like Harry to call Severus 'dad' one day - but I agree with Severus that there are more important things than a title. Oh, and I can't wait Christmas at Spinner's End! |
EllaEleniel 2009-10-16 . chapter 27Great chapter, Pandora. I was waiting to review on P&S, but it hasn't shown up there yet. I loved, loved the little chat about Pepsi and pizza. lol. That was so Snape-ish for him to points out all of the "poisonous" ingredients and get a vegetarian pizza. That's not real pizza! lol. Well, technically I guess my cheese pizzas are vegetarian, but I know that's not what you meant.
I'm looking forward to see how good of a cook Sev is. Pancakes aren't that difficult, and I'm sure he has something more gourmet up his sleeve.
I also can't wait to see how Spinner's End turns out with its makeover courtesy of Harry and Christmas! I hope Harry will convince his father to help him decorate the tree.
Very good last line. It fits perfectly, and it's a great ending sentence.
After reading your review yesterday, I was so hoping you'd update this story. I so need to get caught up on your other one, but lately anything I've had reading ADHD. It's like I can't get into a story for more than one chapter. I think it's all the writing I've been doing. Anyway, I really enjoyed this update! |
Kristen Hudson 2009-10-16 . chapter 27Oh, I love this chapter! It's good for Severus and Harry to have a friendly neighbor like Susan, who can help them feel welcome, even if she does bring some painful memories for Severus. Perhaps he needs to try to work through them, rather than bury them, in order to have some peace.
I love how close Severus and Harry are becoming and how protective Severus is. I can completely understand him not wanting Harry to become an Auror, even though he will not stand in his way. Is your Harry going to become an Auror or he will have second thoughts? Harry would be a great Auror and I know it's canon, but I have always thought he'd be an awesome professor too! (I have a soft spot for Harry being a professor...but maybe that's cause I'm a teacher, lol!)
Spinner's End is going to be beautiful when they're done. It's probably funny how much I enjoy reading about it, but I do love beautiful houses and it's nice to see a neglected, dilapidated one being brought back to life.
Loved the conversation about whether Harry should call Severus "Dad", or "Father" or whatever, and I do hope that one day they will both be comfortable with it. And then, when Severus told Harry he was proud of him...well, my heart just melted! A perfect ending to the chapter! |
Iva1201 2009-10-10 . chapter 4Minerva blackmailed him quite nicely for a Gryffindor, I must say. Good to see him staying, though. |
Iva1201 2009-10-10 . chapter 2Oh yes, I think Snape would really react like this - expecting to be dead with his soul intact as much as it is possible and instead of that waking up to see his son using dark magic of such a degree that his soul may get seriously hurt... |
bookivore 2009-10-02 . chapter 14I just found this story and I've been it. Some nitpicks for this chapter: Draco couldn't have gone to Lucius very easily about murdering D.: Lucius was in Azakaban for Draco's 6th year. Also, there was no sign that Draco went to Snape, throughout HBP we saw Snape begging Draco to tell him what his assignment was. But it works easily well that Draco went for emotional support but not actual support, so that one can be a wash. |
misundersnape 2009-10-02 . chapter 26Ah, finally found time to read all this chappie.
I liked your little twists on canon... kinda made the house and villiage feel a little more homely for Harry. I know Severus was feeling badly about even having so little to offer Harry as it was, so at least he could offer a 'home', even a run down one - it can always be fixed up (as they are doing).
Susan seems nice... wonder if you have more plans for her... ?
Urgh - Pettigrew! Yes, I can understand how dirty Harry would be feeling thinking Wormtail had been frolicking in his 'new' home... but Sev really had no choice, so no sense in dwelling on it... it's not the end of the world, after-all.
And still detention, poor Harry, but he did earn it, after-all!
Great chappie, thanks. 'Til next time,
misundersnape... |
firefly5151 2009-09-26 . chapter 26Great chapter. I can't wait to see how the rest of the stay at Spinners End will go between the two. |
wingnutdawn 2009-09-21 . chapter 26very nice chapter.. Though it sounds a bit confusing when it is supposed to be Christmas time and Harry notices the yard needs to be mowed. |
