Great story, except I definitely don't think Snape cared about the Order of Merlin. I tend to agree with duj on that one, as regards what must have been on his mind in stead. However, I also think Dumbledore's comment to Snape in POA while Fudge was there, when Dumbledore commented on something being impossible unless it was possible for a person to be two places at once, was in fact a "heads up" to Snape. Snape must have known, as all of Hermione's teachers probably knew, that she had a time turner all year. And the Ministry knew as well, as they'd given approval for it. Dumbledore needed Snape to be quiet and stop any talk which might get Ministry officials actually thinking (shock!), and remember that they left Harry in the hospital wing in the company of a student with a time turner.

I like the interaction in your story between Dumbledore and Snape.

Yes, that is Snape; Potter and co have just saved him from murdering an innocent man, but he could not feel any bit of gratitude or regret, oh no, he has no other feelings than self-sorry :(

I came across this randomly, and it was a very entertaining read :-) The characterizations were well done, and it was an interesting (and realistic) take on how Severus must have felt after that event.

Great job!

Poor Snape, I do feel sorry for him here. Fudge was a fool to take the order of merlin from him.

That story was great! A pity that it is already finished. Hope you will write something similar soon.

Oh, I liked this very much! It's been a while since I've read any PoA stories, so it was nice to read your fic. Character portrayals were all quite believeable and dialogue was thought-out. Good job!

This tale's been tugging on your sleeve for awhile, then, has it? ;)

Shame, really, that a wizard of Severus's talent and scope is still looking for an endorsement in the form of an Order of Merlin. At least in this story, Severus acknowledges Dumbledore's friendship and regard for him outside of the relationship they have as a result of the tasks they know they must complete to defeat the Dark Lord. I would imagine that not too many witches or wizards appreciated Severus's finesse or bravery like Dumbledore did--until the end of the HP series, when Harry was also able to appreciate certain things about Severus despite his faults, and name one of his children after him.

It was fun to read a version of Severus's perspective of events after Dumbledore engineered the escape of Sirius Black. :)

Great job, Rachel. Sev's descent into the worsening affects of concussion was very well written and exactly what would happen.
He is stubborn to a fault though, isn't he? As a very intelligent man, I would have thought that he would realise that his health was deteriorating at a rapid rate.

One thing that I never did understand about that scene in the Shrieking Shack was that Severus heard enough of the conversation between them all to make him realise that there might be something to what they were saying. It was obvious that Sirius wasn't there to kill HArry or he would have done it already. And he would know that Ron Weasley had a pet rat. His hatred of Sirius and Remus just made him totally blind to the truth.

I don't like to think that Severus would have been interested in that medal, but I do think he was, unlike one of you other reviewers. More on that in a PM. It is also very sad that Sev could lose control like he did because Sirius had escaped and he was sure HArry had helped him. That kind of hatred is horrible to see in anyone. He would have been happy to see sirius dead, or soulless because of the continuing bitterness from their younger years.

It's a very unfortunate relationship...very sad.

This was very nicely written and it was nice to see DD being so concerned for Severus. I am glad Ron felt a little guilty...I always hated that Sirius let Sev's head scrape along the roof of the tunnel, so Ron should have felt guilty, along with HArry and Hermione if they had been there. I think they would ahve ben there for the night in canon because both of them had lost consciousness from the effects of 100 or more dementors. She would have wanted to observe them overnight.

I liked Poppy's fussing.

I'm sending you a PM.

I wondered if Snape had ever been treated for the concussion (aided by the glorious Sirius Black) he received in PoA. I'm glad in this one he is (and I was pleasantly surprised by Ron Weasley's expression of concern, one does not expect it from anyone who typically thinks of Snape as 'the greasy git' After all, not even Harry really cared in canon, and only Remus bothered to check if Snape even lived).

But of course Snape can't possibly receive any recognition; he might actually of himself as a person and not a pawn if that ever happened.

It would be nice to see this as more than a one-shot.

I agree about the concussion, but I don't believe for a moment that the Order of Merlin was on his mind even slightly.

He had just faced people who'd tried to murder him there before, to save students that included the child his life was dedicated to protecting, his lost love's son, and to bring her betrayer to justice. He had heard that betrayer revel in having tried to kill him and the colleague whose secret he'd kept for twenty years admit to having betrayed everyone's trust both then and now, and to having guiltily kept silent ALL YEAR on how the killer was entering the school to attack said child. Then his employer protects both villains, rescuing one and shielding the other .. and you think he was worried about a bit of metal and ribbon?

"Severus detested feeling at all submissive given the past need to humiliate and humble himself in front of his other Master."

Would this explain why he feels the need to bully his students? To exert the power he has taken from him by LV? And Dumbledore to some extent?

“Oh, you silly boy,” Poppy admonished gently, taking Severus by the forearm; beginning to lead him to the closest bed."

I LOVE Poppy calling him a silly boy - that is hilarious!

Nicely written as I would expect from you. I always wondered what happened after Snape's explosion in the Hospital Wing in POA. :) Great job!
