First two paragraphs were my favorite bit; loved the whole thing. I miss Acey-fic, I do.

I thought this was a very nice story; some casual yet profound insight into the minds of the orphans. I love how Mello turns an initially nonsensical statement into a sympathetic rationality. Just wonderful.

I love how nonchalant-yet-dedicated Matt comes across as. Not just in "I want to be L," but in "Tetris is too winnable." It makes a good parallel.

I like Mello here, too. There's nothing that really stands out about it, he's just Mello being Mello. Mello being the Mello who will become Mr. Insecurity. It's a short little thing, but it... fits so well. I like gaps-bridging moments like this, and it's... not sweet, and kinda depressing in that 'damn-Near' kind of way, but it still made me smile.
