I am not a Doctor/Donna fan, but this was too beautiful for me to pass up leaving a thought. I like how much you say with so few words - really, a job well done with this.

despite myself, because i'm not a huge fan of these kinds of things, i have to say that i liked this A LOT.

what he did to her has always kind of creeped me out. he is, in fact, and always has been kind of creepy. i suppose you can justify it by saying he almost has to be because he lives so long.. is so OLD both in spirit and mind.

still... what he did to donna (and in fact what he did to rose at the end as well) is in some ways unjustifiable...

it is a theme i seem to keep revisiting in my long, rambling space opera... for example, chapter 5 of 'abomination' where i write about the "terrible deed." BUT (and here we come back to you, finally!!) you do it better and with far more poignancy and (to your credit!) brevity.

so while i might disagree with you on his motivation (love, i don't know.. shame, most definately yes), i have to say:

1) "…and legs were shaking with the effort of standing up." Did you mean "...and HER legs ARE shaking with the effort of standing up? :S
2) "She was going to die." You MIGHT have meant "She IS going to die", if it's present tense.
3)"…irrelivantly…" Not a word, accoring to our dear old mother. *huggles Mum* Right. You could have said something like "A totally irrelevant thought crosses his mind: She's beautiful". Something like that...8D
