Amaq Iraluq 2009-11-21 . chapter 6This is very well written, really. I've quite enjoyed it so far, and I do hope you continue the story, not abandon it. I'm curious to see how Harry deals with accepting "reality"... again. Plus, Snape will be an interesting character to help him along with it; although, it seems like he would be a good candidate, as he seems to have had experience with similar things (probably Death Eater victims.) Please continue! |

expiry 4.23 2008-12-22 . chapter 6This is chilling and evocative. I'd had a similar idea once upon a time about Harry being forced to take medication (mine was a pre-Hogwarts fic, prompted by his 'dangerous outbursts' of accidental magic) but it never came to pass, and so when I stumbled upon this I was thrilled someone else had executed it -- and so well, too.
Your research appears to be very thorough; I can't think of anything that I'd add or correct, whether from personal experience or from my classes at university...the treatments and medications you chose were appropriate and likely for Harry's supposed schizophrenia, and the debilitating side effects you mentioned were very accurately (and disturbingly) described. Medications can be good -- they gave me back a normal existence -- but as you've shown here, when misused or put into the wrong hands the consequences can be dire.
I look forward to more. Favourited and added to alerts. |
 EterNite 2008-12-17 . chapter 6OMG AMAZING! |
zafaran 2008-12-17 . chapter 6Poor Harry. I can't wait to find out what happens in the upcoming chapters. I can *so* sympathize with his situation. When I was a child I was overweight, so they got the bright idea of putting me on thyroid hormone, dextroamphetimine, and compozine to force me to lose weight when I was eleven. By the time I refused to take any more of it eight months later, I'd just about ruined any potential for going further in school in anything but the classes for the slow students when I'd been an A/B level student before starting the medication. I'd been in an induced state of hyperactivity attention deficit disorder for an entire school year, and had become a discipline nightmare for the school since I couldn't pay attention and was literally bouncing off the walls, and had acquired an eating disorder. Thank God it was compulsive eating since anorexia and binge/purge have far more severe systemic consequences. Still took me decades to finish eradicating that effect though. It took me until I was a senior in high school to get my grades back up to a proper level, too, and then we discovered I was dyslexic, and I don't know if the learning disability had existed before the medication or not. All in all, it was rather the pits, and Harry's a long way to go to being anything approaching normal. I'm looking forward to seeing how you deal with his issues. I like that there hasn't just been a "magic" fix to the problem, and they are going to have to work with him to heal the problems. Severus is my favorite character, and I like the fact that it looks like he's going to get to play a major role in the story. I hope your muse and schedule will allow you to write and post more chapters sometime soon. Keep up the good work. Zafaran {mailto:} zafaran {at} fastmail {dot} fm |

Flanclanman 2008-12-16 . chapter 6I'm not even kidding; that first part of the chapter nearly made me cry. I think it was the fact that he couldn't see them that really kicked it in.
The letter idea was brilliant, I hope it got through properly though. I also liked the fact that he was able to see Snape in some way, even if it was only blurry.
*le weep* As I say, this is a truly beautiful story.
I'm simply buzzing for the next chapter!

Proof 2008-12-16 . chapter 6 my mum has skizoprenia. Even though she really had it it took 20 years for them to get the medication right. they had her comotosed at times. shakign. She was also badly mistreated. No one seems to care how the mentaly ill get treated as long as thye dont have to deal with them. Thank you for writing this. they wanted to use Electic shocks on her. My dad refuesed to let them and they were going to go to cort to force it on her when she started to improve. we were so lucky. My dad forght for her the whole time. trying to reduce the amount of damage they did. when you end up in the mental health system you also give up some of your rights as a human being. its all so sad and terribel. What happened to Harry in yoru story is somthign that goes on all around the world to so many people. |
