Thanks for writing this! It fed my craving to see the guys interacting and I echo what other reviewers said. I liked the segments where Renji went white with anger, but was still controlled, and where he told Byakuya that he would challenge him again if needed. And especially that you point out that to reach the post of vice-captain requires not only ability and ambition but also discipline. I think that is often forgotten in portrayals of Renji.

Ain't that the truth! Kuchiki isn't exactly the touchy-feely encouraging boss. You brought out his sense of reserve. He really should have ended up with the ice-dragon since as it suits his personality better than Hitsugaya's. Even when complimenting his subordinate he'd never be accused of being effusive.

Loved the contrast between Kuchiki and Renji. Renji may think of himself as a gutter brat, but his conscience, sense of honor, and passion renders him much more like-able and human than his icicle of a boss.
