Naomitrekkie 2009-07-21 . chapter 4Hm, someplace fun, huh? Well, I hope for the Doctor's sake that he goes by the girls' definition of fun and not his, or Rose'll have to deal with Doctor number 11. I wonder where they'll go, as well as Evil's plan. Can't wait to see where this goes!
So, I'm really liking this fic. I've love the previous three too, and am mega uberly sorry for not reviewing each one individually. Originally I had planned to, but seeing how long they were (not that long fics are bad; I love them to pieces) and how I wanted to continue on as quickly as possible, I figured I'd just review at the end. So here I go. Lucky you, four reviews in one!
Ok, so in Doppleganger, I loved how Rose wanted to believe Evil was good and how only the Doctor could open here eyes, so to speak. It was really believable, with Rose's internal struggle and all. Jackie's reaction was sheer brilliance and dead on acurate. Will Donna possibly be accompanying them to a Chrsitmas at Pete's World? I seem to recall a promise that we've yet to see kept. Oh, and I like how Jackie weaseled the one trip a year out of him! Go Jackie! Also, it might just be me being forgetful, but did Rose ever give him that leaf? I don't remember her giving it to him, though I remember Rose showing Martha, and I've been dying to know if she had or not. If she hasn't, this fic would be a great time to do so!
So in the Dark Doctor's Revenge (that was the title, right?), I've got to say, Doc could learn a thing or two from Evil. I mean really, Doc, you need to get TARDIS recall. I love how you seeded the chip thing in, and how you tipped the tables just when they were finally thinking they were safe. On quick question, but knowing were Evil went, how in the Void did he think the Doctor was going to find him? I mean, there wasn't a clue in the note, at least not that I could see. Other than that, it was nice.
Oh, have I mentioned how much I love Doc and Rose's mental connection!! It explained so much the show didn't delve into. That one of the things I like about your writing, at least with this series. You go and take canon, twist it a bit, but then give out these brilliant reasons behind everything. Such as in how the Doctor felt about Martha in 1 or why the Master took precaution 1, 2, and 3, or why he killed everyone in Japan. Those little details are a large part of why I really love this, since you give this alternate explanations from your AU world that fit into canon, all without quoting the episodes word for word. It's a gift you have, and it really gets me to want to read more.
3, the Dark Doctor's Master Plan was great. I loved seeing that little team (I knew it wouldn't end well) work together. It was comical, at times. I love how it was a bonus for Doc to find Rose, though I felt so bad for all of them to have to suffer all that torture. The little details really helped me enjoy this long fic. I was completely freaked when Evil was in Rose's shower or watching it anyway. And then what else he did, it was horrible. I'm so glad they got away for a bit. And stating in Buckingham Palace? How cool? I loved how they adopted that family, it was so kind of them. I wonder if Rose and the Doctor ever go see what they're really like, like with Martha and Tom. The Christmas gifts were so nice. I'm assuming Rose still has the ring (since you have yet to mention it, I'm assuming it's true 'cause of the whole she's gotta be on the Valiant or else the chip will return thing). I'll admit it, but when I first saw the ring, I thought it was an engagement ring. I wonder if Doc still has the paper. Look at me, being random, but it was 57 chapters of stuff to talk about (and I loved ever minute if it!). Oh, and so now I gotta know, but does Rose know Jack works for Torchwood, 'cause I seem to recall her being held captive during story time. Just wondering 'cause I imagine Rose will kill him a few times when she finds out he pretty much betrayed her.
Oh, and can I say, I adore Puff? The whole naming thing was great! And Puff Jr instead of Doctor? Hilarious!! Now look how random I am.
So, now we come to 4. I'm probably repeating myself, but I've gotta lot of characters left, so I hope you don't mind. I'm loving how Donna and Rose are getting alng, it's great. 50 wpm? Piece of cake for our loud mouth red head. OMG, as soon as you had the blonde filling out an application, I knew it was Rose, even before you said Ms. Tyler (I'll admit, that threw me. Fir some reason that made me think it was Jackie until I remebered she was in Pete's World). I feel even worse for the Doctor since he's litsened in on Rose's conversation 'cause now he's gonna inflict more self wallowing and beat himself up for it. Sometimes, I think that's the Doctor's most selfish quality. Some might not see it that way, but I find it selfish of him to feel guilty about every little thing. He obviously enjoys self inflicted torture, otherwise, why'd he do it?
Ok, so I think that's everything, no wait, I remembered something. I think the Doctor's wrong. He's been wrong before, and I think he's wrong about Bad Wolf. I think that somewhere deep, deep, deep down, Rose still has that little bit of Bad Wolf in her. I think it was too deep for the Master to penetrate. Maybe it's like a core part of her being or something, like an essential part of herself she doesn't know exists, not on any level. I also think that the only way Rose can activate it is when she's a complete emotional wreck consisting of at least unbearable worry for the Doctor, lots of frustration, anger, betrayal, heartbreak, ect, all of which are aimed towards or stemmed from the Doctor, which is why just worrying hasn't awoken it. Or maybe it's always been there, but only the TARDIS can unlock it. Something like that, idk. I might be completely wrong about Bad Wolf, but you just mentioned it too much for me to simply accept that it's gone.
I hope you'll continue, I can't wait to see what you have in store for this adventure of the Doctor and Rose. This series is flippin' fantastic! I feel like I'm leaving something out still, so I'll PM ya if I remember. Until then, keep up the great work! :D

PS. This is the longest review I've ever written. Ever, and I tend to write long reviews (or at least I try). This was longer by a lot. |
