Nice one-shot. It really fills in that blank created by X2, explaining what happened to the kids who managed to escape from the mansion during the attack. There aren't enough fics on that subject in my opinion.

This little story showed Peter's caring side and did a good job at it, too. And that last sentence, it was simply beautiful.

I really like this one-shot. I've been wondering what happened with the other kids as well, and this was a nice explanation on what could have happened. I like the way you've portrayed Peter and his thoughts, and your writing is flawless. And I really like the last sentence: "In the darkest hour, there is always a light, even if it can't be seen in front of us." It was quite beautiful. Overall, excellent work!
