I think Lawrence was uncharacteristically excited in this story. It wasn't too out-of-character, but it felt a little odd. That said, I enjoyed your story; there were few (and minor) grammar hiccups, the quality and the style of writing were both good, and the story flows smoothly. Nicely done :)

A very nice story. A short look in the life of the trader pair.
It feels a bit incomplete though, there's no definite conclusion,
only a vague sense of Lawrence's introspective mood and Horo's
animal like wisdom.
You could flesh the ending out a bit more, show us Lawrence's
thoughts maybe?

Nevertheless, I like it a lot. The quality of writing and
characterisation is very good.
