false 2009-11-27 . chapter 12 Wow...I've read this twice now, all the way through, and I have to comment...it's breathtaking, really. I love how you keep the reader in suspense, waiting for the "romance" to really start, and this is the best Luna characterization I've seen so far in fanfiction.
I do have a bit of critique for Ron, as a previous poster commented on. But it's basically the same thing, so I can just assume you took artistic liberty...or whatever it's called, haha.
It's been a bit over four months since you last updated...I hope chapter thirteen will come soon, hopefully before the end of 2009? ♥ |
Kuugen the Fox 2009-07-30 . chapter 12Reading the whole story in one go, I could put a review for every chapter here, but christ, the last time I did that, the review exceeded 10.0 characters.
I like the writing style, the change in descriptions. You don't repeat, 'cept a few occasions, things too often. I also think the characterization is pretty well done. Luna has always been my favorite character, and out of the few Luna / Hermione stories out there, I'd say this is my favorite one. I was a little sad that the story is coming to a close with the next chapter, but it was a good reminder that not every story is ever-ongoing.
I usually dislike drama a lot and had my problems there at some parts, but the story kept me going so that says a lot about the quality. I did think that the talk-about-yourself-in-3rd-person thing was very odd. I still think that. I don't remember that from either the movies or the books. It's nothing grave but I can't fanthom how you got that idea.
On another note, I thought Ron was a bit... out of character. Sure, he was with Hermione, and he would be angry at such things, but I don't think it would be Ron's attitude to keep quiet and brood over it. Read: Ron's characterization was off. As for everyone else, I thought you got them pretty good, even though I had my doubts at some points with Ginny.
The general artistic style of the descriptions reminds me a lot of something I've read in the past but I can't remember for the heck of it where from. It carries just the right load of variation and sticking to continous elements that seem right and appropriate in each situation. As for the locations themselves, it has been some time since the books but I got a pretty good mental image on them, so you did a good job there.
I do have some critique on that part though. The descriptions of the locations lacked. Sure, the characters are the main point of interest, but I sometimes wondered just what the heck the location looked like. It was, sometimes, like characters with a foggy, unclear background.
It's impossible to actually rate stories objectively, so I'm using my own scale subjectively. Including all pro's and con's, I do give this a 8,9 out of 10 because i really enjoyed my read. It was worth my time.
Sadly, I'm absolutely not a fan of short stories, so I will have to pass on your other works, which is a pity. But my mind is pretty predetermined on such things, and even if it was good, I couldn't enjoy it because it is short. I'm sure there are enough other people that know to cherish those.
If you ever put a long story out again, I will know. I hope so. While the original harry potter series lack certain elements I find, it does make great fanfiction material.
Honorable Greetings
Luna Charon
