Silent Scribe,

This story is absolutely amazing! I don't believe I have ever heard Sesshomaru talk so much before haha. You did an excellent job of allowing Sesshomaru to voice his opinions and using Rin to argue the opposing viewpoints while still keeping them in character.

I do have one question though. How old did you envision Rin to be in this story? I ask because she implies that she is still prepubescent ("when I get boobs and a few more inches, I’m going to seduce.”) but she speaks very fluidly and intelligently as if she were an adult. Perhaps Lord Sesshomaru just taught her proper grammar very well. I don't mean to be overly critical, but it was a question that crossed my mind.

By the way, Kudos to you and Ravyn Skye for being able to carry on an intelligent and mature debate without flaming each other. It is a rare quality to find in people these days, and it is always refreshing to see two people who are able to calmly debate an issue by arguing their point while respecting the other’s opinions. I am honestly sick of arguing my point of view in a civil manner only to be insulted or have my intelligence mocked.

It makes me really happy, that this debate can be handled with maturity. At least by some anyway. Thank you very much.

I read both statements. I'm sooner to side with Ravenskye than you, mainly because I'm an avid fan of history and in paticular Asian history. Secondly, when I asked her to provide sources of information she did. She even gave me the links of the japanese interviews which I have translated by someone who speaks Japanese.

You on the other hand, make a claim without any evidence. You can say what you want, but it falls to opinion if you have no proof.

Humorous meta fan fics rule! I sum up the arguements as- repeat to yourself "This is just a hobby and these are fictional characters" and it will all be well...
Good work!

Wow, that was fast. Though I agree more with your side after some of our communications, I still don't see Sesshoumaru and Rin as father/daughter. I just look at her as someone who developed him emotionally and helped enlighten him a little about the true power of humans. Of course, I still haven't a leg to stand on in either argument and I'm admittedly biased. Everyone knows whom I deem the best woman for him. In any case, this was nice. Well written, too. :)

Thank you SO MUCH for doing this for me! I didn't know that you would actually take the time to put up a rebuttal to me!

I LIKE the rebuttal, as it is what I ASKED you for, because I ENJOY the DEBATE, and I LIKE to make people THINK...

The problem is that you do the same thing that people accused me of doing... you haven't sited a SINGLE source. I think you should go back and site some so your argument will come across as more credible, and I want that. I want to make sure you come across as mature and like you are arguing the validity of my POINTS not ME... I PERSONALLY am IRRELEVANT to this argument, and calling me a 'cur' is just... not relevant.

I think this will make for a better rebuttal if you take out the personal insults, otherwise I'm afraid that people will just think you are someone who doesn't like ME and not someone who knows what they are talking about.

Also, my historical info on the kimonos is actually very accurate (I sited sources, and put a link up to the picture of the Kimono that Rin's was based on, which if you follow the link about the clothes shows not ONLY the picture, but gives the backround of the kimono, which was worn by the youngest princess of one of the emporers of Japan), so you have to invalidate that arguement with something, as that one had SOURCES.

I think a better argument than 'She just doesn't know what she's talking about', which doesn't work because I sited MULTIPLE SOURCES for that one, would be that he's giving her fine silk robes that only a noblewoman would wear because he's treating her as a 'daughter', (but the pattern of it makes that arguement invalid, so you have to take it FURTHER and EXPLAIN why she's wearing a pattern for one who is already intended to be married) so try saying something like she's wearing the robes of an intended wife (remember, eight years old was plenty old enough to be intended or promised to someone for marriage in those times, and it was not controversial AT ALL, it was common practice among royalty... hells they would promise SIX MONTH OLD FEMALE BABIES to neighboring lords to create political alliances) because he intends her for Kohaku or another Lord, (Perhaps a human lord?) thus giving her a good life once her period of 'training' in 'woman's things' like childbirth, (she is helping Kaede deliver Sango's child in the epilogue) is over. You could also try to argue that he's giving her the kimono not as a 'courting gift', (they WERE traditional courting gifts), but because he is intending to provide her with a rich dowry, so she can marry well. A lord father might provide a dowry for his daughter, although he would usually not be the one to gift her with the kimonos, you could say he's doing it because Rin's mother is dead...

Also, I'm actually not just 'some westerner' who is 'speculating' about the culture. Now, I SWEAR, I'm NOT trying to be 'obnoxious' with my backround, BUT it IS TRUE that I am forced to go to Japan for three months out of the year because of my hubby's job... honestly, I HATE going, it is a pain in the **, the apartment provided is tiny, the food is terrible for someone like me who doesn't eat fish and I miss my friends and family terribly. Couple that with the actual pain in the butt of the actual travel and IT SUCKS. I WISH I didn't have to go there. My hatred of the situation doesn't change the fact that I have seen some of the insanity FIRST HAND. (Vending machines with little 5 year old anime girl statues in sexually sugestive positions that are RIGHT ON THE STREET, the 'Under 15 section of the ** DVD's that are in EVERY MAJOR video store, the game show on paradise tv network (the 24/7 ** channel that is not a 'paid' channel but just like a local channel here, broadcast into every Japanese home free of charge) where teen girls (14 and 15) competed to lose their virginity on national television. You seem to think these things are 'controversial', and say that, but it is NOT. It is part of life in a culture that was not affected or shaped by christian puritanical influence. I even sited my sources for the avarage age of consent in the prefectures being 13-15.

Despite these things you could improve upon, I DO thank you for taking the time to post this, and I will continue to value our 'friendship', (as I DO think of you as a great intellectual 'sparring' partner, and someone who I LOVE to debate with, as it helps BOTH of us to perfect our arguments) and I have you on my fave author's list for a reason, you have some of the cutest most adorable Father/Daughter Sess/Rin stories I have ever read. I like them BOTH ways actually, as you know. I have written them BOTH ways, and I some of my fave stories are Father/Daughter Sess/Rin. I'm NOT against them that way at all, which people seem to think for some reason... even though if they read my stories they would see that I have some father/daughter stories of them.

Once again though, I really appreciate you taking the time to write up a rebuttal for me. I asked because you are the best person I have met for the job. I just know that you can debate these points without making it personal or damaging your credibility, and sighting your sources. You are better than this, I know it and you know it.

Let's keep it intellectual here, and wait until my little 'surprise' on Feb. 26th... I think that some people will appreciate it and some won't, but either way everyone will have something to THINK about! (Remember my historical info is ACCURATE and mostly sited, so you need to find some sources to refute mine.)

eh, forgot something. ;D lol.

*huggles Rin* there, there, dear, i don't see you in that awful light! you're his precious little **daughter**!

*turns to glare at Sesshomaru* read Scribe's "Grow Up" ficlet about you two! That is all there needs to be said. And since when do you care about a complete--screwed up, idiotic--stranger's opinion? Even more, since when do you let it determine your actions?! Hug the damn child!!

lol. i couldn't help myself. i just had to. :P i thought of it while washing dishes.

right on! it's just sick--imo--to see them as otherwise. i know it's bringing in 'foreign/future' thoughts/tastes/etc, but my opinion still applies.

sorry i didn't get to your thing earlier. i was gone all day working a fireworks stand. however, i did get to read the two ficlets--and nearly gagged afterwards.

The first thing you have to know id that I am a devoted Sessh/Rin shipper. The second is that I was very happy to read this. I happen to think that you are right about how ridiculous people get with this pairing. I can't stand it when people say that Sesshomaru is only waiting for Rin to get older. (How unromantic, anyway!)
I always thought that the Sessh/Rin relationship, whether platonic or romantic, was mostly about Sesshomaru learning acceptance and learning to feel affection for the first time. That Rin was created as the perfect foil for Sesshomaru. And that this affection was not sexual in any way made it even more touching. Of course, if anything happens in the future... well, I suppose that's up to the fans.
So, devoted shipper that I am, I did, in fact, agree with a lot of things in this fic.

Although I believe Sesshoumaru and Rin will become more than just father and daughter relationship but I love the ending of your one-shot! You always write it so tastefully...
