Very good allegory. I completely agree-- it is really their contradictions, their grey areas that make them so wonderful, isn't it? Perfect imperfections.

Although one concrit I can give you is the old "show not tell." Don't be afraid to stretch it out a bit longer to really demonstrate it to the reader rather than just saying that it is so. To me, it seems you were a bit too direct.
