BurningIce22 2009-01-27 . chapter 1I thought this was a lovely fairy tale, and the whimsical style was well done. I guess the only issue I have is that although you present a very feminist message, I felt like it was shadowed by the fact that Gwen valued material possessions (a nicer house) over the lives of her brothers. It was especially contradictory since the second brother dies because he is greedy and wants more gold...so the message seems to be against materialism, yet all of it came about because she wanted a nicer house. Also, despite the fact that the brothers laughed at her, do they really deserve death? Is that the right message to send?
Most of these problems are pretty standard of traditional fairy tales, but it seems that you were trying to write in the style of a traditional fairy tale with a modernized message. Why not modernize it completely by removing all those morally questionable things we accept in older fairy tales? |

Nytd 2009-01-04 . chapter 1I really enjoyed this one a lot. Never underestimate the powers of a determined woman! ;)
I like the way she interacts with all three brothers at the beginning. Great description of the fearsome dragon!
Maybe just a bit of inspiration from Eowyn in LotR? The ending is great!
Once again, I was sorry to see it end!
Cheers!
