This is a pretty good story! Well written, with an interesting sort of behind-the-scenes plot- with two of my favorite villains, no less!

There was only one part that bugged me- in the last chapter, you wrote that Scarecrow's father “didn’t want to canoodle me" - which is all fine and dandy, but I think the word you were going for was "coddle", perhaps? (Unless you're using a different definition- the only one I know of is to pet or have sex with, so...)

Anyhow, loving the story, and really glad to see just a nice little friendship fic longer than one chapter. Gives it time for development.

Another solid chapter. Great points you brought up here, about what they would do if they did defeat Batman once and for all. When that seems to be the focus of your life, how do you cope once it's gone. I also liked Scarecrow analyzing Jervis' desire to get away from it all, and wondering why a dream like that should seem unrealistic.

Always enjoyable delving into the mindset of these two. Keep up the good work.

Jervis has a very good point. What WOULD any of them do, if they were finally reaching their goals. Their lives would be rather boring. Is it even possible to live with no fear? I like what he said about having to be the best. It's quite true. Once you're the very best...there's nothing else to do, except HAVING to keep being the best.

It's strange reading Jervis using logic. Great chapter! As always, looking forward to reading more.

Wow! Great insight into the Scarecrow's past. No wonder he's so messed up. The mother being the main abuser was a great twist. And some of the observations Scarecrow made, like the authorities automatically assuming the woman was abused and the fear of dying alone, amazing the truths about society evil geniuses can have. And the fear of dying alone and unknown would be a realistic fear for him, after living the last few years in the limelight as the self-proclaimed Master of Fear.

Again, great job on peeling back the layers of the Scarecrow and giving one of my favorite Batman villains more depth.

I liked how you put in about Jonahathon's parents. How he became so interested in fear. It really is quite a powerful thing, and one must always have something to fear, as Grandma Fontaine from GWTW told Scarlett. 'Always save something to fear'.

So sorry I haven't reviewed the last 3 chapters... Really haven't been in the fan-fiction mood lately. Don't know why. Probably the stress of real life, heh.

Anyway, just read this chapter (and the others I missed), and I have to say that it's as good as always. Though I have to ask...when will this story will be finished? I don't mean to offend you, but in my opinion, the story is beginning to drag a little. Getting a little dull. I understand that you're telling how Jonathan and Jervis became friends and whatnot, but I don't think you need to go through all of the Animated Series episodes to tell this tale. Again, this is just my opinion.

Other than that, your writing is as good as always.

I love this story! You do such a lovely job at capturing the minds of the characters, and I particularly love all of the literary banter. The quotations, references... Delectable! You have done justice to the characters' backgrounds, I think, as well as their inner thoughts and their individual psychoses. I can't wait for the next chapter! I hope there are tons more to come in the future.

I really can't stress enough how much I like the way you write the interactions between Jervis and Jonathan. I'm looking forward to reading more.

Now usually I don't like any re-writings of Jonathan's past but I actually kind of like this one. It's believable while still staying in the 'strange, twisted sort of childhood' thing that I liked about Year One. Yay you =]

You did it again! You created a believable family life. I'm personally used to hearing and reading about his grandmother. So of course it's nice to see an origin involving Crane's mother and father. Okay...Maybe "nice" isn't the correct wording, because I felt bad for ol' Mister Crane. Dealing with that kind of woman? Bet he felt pretty inmasculine because of his wife, too. Although I don't agree to his teachings. Personally, I think you should give the "Happily Ever After" stories while they are very young, then gradually introduce the "real" endings. But hey, I'm not here to judge a fictional character's parental methods. Besides, his way must have been better than Jonathan's mother's ways...

Enough about that. Loved how you wrote this chapter. Then again, I just like your writing in general. ESPECIALLY how you show Hatter's and Scarecrow's friendship. It's quite obvious that they both truly respect and care for each other. It's sweet. You don't see too many villains that have this kind of relationship. Then again, you rarely see something as deep in normal society.

I'll be eagerly awaiting the next installment. Take care, and try not to harm an innocent village! (Not saying you actually would. It's just very good advice to give.)
