You've done a lot of AU in the past, and they've been good, but I have to say I think this is the best I've seen from you and maybe it has something to do with your staying within the established canonical boundaries? You've curbed your imagination a little and it's actually wound up being better off for the reigning in - because some of your other fics, enjoyable though they were, strained characterization a little at times, but this...I can totally see this happening.

You describe the emotions, moment-by-moment, vividly but not in an overstated way - maybe inspiration from that story on LJ we've all been discussing? I think that was a challenge that has pushed us all to new levels! I'm so glad you put this up, despite your no-prydain resolve. :)

Eilonwy's dialog is spot-on, as are her thoughts about "pesky assistant pig-keepers". I love how you describe Taran's thoughts and worries, as well. Just lovely overall. And I think that last line is perfect.
