oh my god I can not believe this is the end. You could have really write more about their relationship. Oh god.. if only you would. I love love love your story. It is just so sweet and perfect. All and anguish and sadness that Severus has been through and she was sort of the only one that truly cared and truly wanted to do something about it.

I hope they become lovers though =/ maybe a sequel? Please?

Wow. This was a really amazing piece of work. Just brilliant really.

I love Gwen. She is a fantastic character and the kind of love she gave to Severus is really the purest. It is only on a rare occasion that I dig up stories of this quality. There are a few things that bugged me. Firstly, Gwen resembles Lily. Not that you didn't use it well as a plot device, but it's sort of an overused characteristic in Snape/OC stories. I definitely don’t recommend that you change that part, though. Of course, that’s only because it would be hard to accomplish without changing the story completely. In your shoes (and after reading this, I know them to be very big shoes to fill), I would have leaned in for a “Lily was kind and understanding --> Gwen is kind and understanding (to Severus at least) --> Therefore they are similar --> A drunken man might get the two confused in his jumbled, incoherent excuse for a thought process” type of angle. It’s hardly as believable as just saying that they looked alike (which is why I don’t recommend that you even consider altering it). I just happen to be terrified of encountering readers who think my character is a Sue or Stu.

It was a little hard to get used to the way in which the story was written (i.e. present tense, with Severus being referred to as "you"), but once I did, I found myself crying more than once throughout the reading session just from the way in which the style of writing really allows the reader to understand Gwen. While she can feel what others feel, we can feel her and it makes the story just that much more emotional; gives it just that much more of an impact. I really must thank you for writing such a beautiful story. Finding that there really still are people who know how to make something and make it good always makes the days of people like me.

This was... beautiful. I completely agree with tomatojuice´s assesment after reading her/his review. I am unable to say anything from my own head at the moment, simply because I am rather heart-struck after reading this story. It is very, very strong. Heart-wrenchingly beautiful, if there is such a word.

I started reading this story to see if I could get a sense of how Solace might end. I don't feel any more confident in my abililty to predict story direction, but reading Comfort has been a reward in itself.

This was truly beautiful, and one of the most well-written stories I've read on here. The characterization of Severus is just perfect. You've really gotten it down to an art, I think. The tense is also great. In this case it really captures that raw emotion that you have to have with such a dynamic character. Amazing job! I can't wait to go and browse your other stories.

A very nice piece, covering a period of Snape's life which is often neglected, and yet which must have been seminal. And yes, I know from personal experience how difficult it can get when you start picking up someone else's emotions psychically - when it first happens you think they're your *own* emotions, and that you must be going loopy - since they are unrelated to anything that's happening in your own life.

I spotted some typoes/Britpicks in this - hope you don't mind my listing them but I always hope poeple will tell me about *my* typoes.

You've got both Gwen and Severus referring to "fall" when they mean what they, and any other Briton, would call "autumn".

“I don’t recall telling you could speak" - should be “I don’t recall telling you you could speak"

You look flush - should be "flushed", i.e. rather red in the face, unless Snape is being funny. To say that she looked "flush" would mean either that she was level with the surface around her, or that she looked as if she had a lot of money.

trust you to be discrete - should be "discreet". "Discrete" means "clearly distinct from" something, as in the phrase "two discrete entities".

and lay alone in the dark - as this sentnce is present not past tense it should be "lie alone".

This was absolutely amazing. Wonderfully sad and somehow twisted but with hope and bittersweet like it's supposed to be with Severus. I have very rarely read ANY fanfic as good as that. Tank You.
