WatsonandMary4ever 12/6/11 . chapter 1I bet The Irregulars love it when he plays. |
shedoc 3/5/09 . chapter 1oh incredibly picky person here... and NOT flaming you, but...(winces, cos that sounds like a prelude to a flame but it really isn't
you said*He is a maestro, and I am his only audience.
and then the next line...*I wonder: does he play for anyone else? Mrs. Hudson and I are his violin’s only audience.* which makes it an audience of two, and then later you talk about the Irregulars listening from the street... so Watson isn't his only audience? I know, I'm being too literal and my artistic licence should be revoked, but things like that always make me go... huh?
maybe a re-phrase... or maybe just delete this review and tell me where to put myself...
i love the emotion behind this piece, and the way you show Watson acknowledging that Holmes is more than a brain or a detective, but a person with real feelings... that part really sang true for me! |
rabidsamfan 2/7/09 . chapter 1He is a maestro, and I am his only audience.
That's the line that makes this whole thing work so beautifully for me. I love it that Watson understands that. |
Westron Wynde 1/27/09 . chapter 1Sheer lyrical poetry. For example"His concentration is clean as he poises the bow." What an opening line. How do you come up with phrases like that? It's perfect, because we (the readers) know exactly what you mean and we're pitched straight into the story.
And then you go and hit us with"it was Mendelssohn’s Songs without Words that appealed to us both." That line alone requires an essay. It just encapsulates the pair and their relationship so utterly and beautifully. Holmes is definitely an actions-rather-than-words man, and Watson knows the value of his silence. So, yes, that line for me says it all.
I'm in awe. And very glad I've read it More please? |
 KaizokuShojo 1/27/09 . chapter 1Mm, violin love
Fantastic.
My 221bs were awful. Probably why I lost interest in doing them. xD |
 bcbdrums 1/26/09 . chapter 1i like this
i disagree though, with the concept of holmes only allowing watson and mrs hudson to hear him. i think the violin was more than just his way of expressing himself... but, i don't want this review to turn into an essay XD so, i'll just leave you with the thought that it is quite nice, and an interesting interpretation |
VHunter07 1/26/09 . chapter 1Oh my, that was positively lovely! i completely adore violin pieces and yours is one of the best i've ever read. the imagery is so gentle...so delicate. and the fact that he only played for a few people is so interesting. i never thought about it that way. thank you very much for sharing it with us and please do favour up with more! |
AmatorLinguae 1/25/09 . chapter 1Wonderful start to a 221B series! I especially like the reference to the Count I had never thought of it that way. And I love the image of the Irregulars stopping to listen... |
 Merula-Xati 1/25/09 . chapter 1Lovely, and almost lyrical. |
KCS 1/25/09 . chapter 1Bravo! I love this portrayal of Holmes's choice of music and audience it's wonderful. |
Chewing Gum 1/25/09 . chapter 1Oh, so poetic! Pieces about Holmes's violin usually run so melodramatic but this is just right. |
