Maybelle Style 2009-08-03 . chapter 1Absolutely delicious! You know, I read this story sometime in the past, but after reading Dracula and re-reading this again - it makes much more sense. Your prose and atmosphere is fabulous (as always) but what I really caught in here were the symbols and metaphors. For instance, the connection to dolls (Mina struggles alot with role in society, doesn't she?) and even lines like "it was the look of a master; the look of the possessor on the prized possession" - another connection to Dracula as master of both physical and emotional realms.
Have you, by any chance, seen the Coppola version of Dracula?
I feel this story is distinctly like that - sensual, elaborate, an excellent take on the original Dracula with wonderful connections to the novel. |
Thyme In Her Eyes 2009-01-25 . chapter 1Where do I start?
Dark, dreamy and perfect. Thank you for writing this.
You've just made me delirious with happiness. Thank you, thank you, thank you. This was gorgeous, a pleasure to read, and an astonishingly beautiful surprise. I'm so shocked, touched, thrilled and humbled that you wrote this for me, and I can't quite get over it yet. Gobsmacked doesn't nearly cover it. ;)
And I loved this story! Your prose is highly intelligent and lyrical...how can I pick a favourite phrase? Wanton pulses, lifelines of lace, the numerous curtains of reality, breath like metal, an accent like rust, lashes ungluing from tearstains...argh, I'm in heaven! Every word feels so perfectly chosen, and the whole story is saturated in this heavy sense of longing and fear. It's like tangling yourself in a spider's web.
I'm especially jealous (and in awe) of the paragraph describing Mina right at the beginning - you bring together startlingly unique and sensual imagery with such a strong sense of character and personality at the same time. You caught me right away with that - I was there, I could see not just the character herself, but the world around her too, and how she felt when moving in it. You just hinted at a dozen tiny scenes and events shaping her identity in just a few lines.
And for me, the incomprehensible aspects of it really work! I loved the complexity and ambiguity - especially in the ending. It makes it seem all the more soft and hallucinatory, and along with the dangerous edge you keep running through this piece, builds something very stifling, but also dark and enticing. I could really feel dream, trance and reality merging and becoming confused in unnatural (and irresistible) ways.
I could rant and rave for ages, because this piece is so well-written, atmospheric, and unique. I'm so proud that I helped inspire this. Thank you again. Now, it goes straight to the faves list - I'm gonna guard and cherish this like a treasure! |
XxWolfGoddessMyaxX 2009-01-25 . chapter 1You know I don't think I have ever seen "Dracula" all the way through? I really should since it's a classic but I have never actually sat down and watched it. Hmm, something to add to my "To Do" List, eh? Anywho, you did such a fantabulous job with your descriptions and dialogue I can't even put it into words. Now that I've read this it makes me want to go sit down and view the cinema that has inspired this one-shot. Straight to my favorites hun! ^_^ |
