This whole ficlet was IMO very sad, but I really nearly cried at that paw print (my baby sis has a Jack Russell and a spaniel - until the end of May they are her only "children" - and they always sign the family's birthday and Christmas cards with paw prints (using food colouring instead of possibly poisonous ink), too)!
