Okay, I have to admit that I think you have more of an intuitive handle on Fred's internal monologue than Angel's. This is just a thought, I don't want to insult you. But I don't really think that Angel would *permit* himself to be quite so open about considering Cordy in a romantic way with the threat of perfect happiness hanging over his soul. Do you think that Angel feels less of a threat from perfect happiness with Cordy than with Buffy? Would he consciously prevent himself from feeling so? Is he settling for contentment and comfort? Does he need some comfort, or perhaps just some security? I'd love to see your take on maybe an action scene or some dialogue between Angel and the other characters. Try a new form I bet you'll be good at it!

I really like this. You've captured wonderfully the relationships Angel has with the women he loves and yet preserved that tension of uncertainty that makes those relationships so interesting. Perfect title, btw. I love that word picture.
