Mariagoner 2009-12-31 . chapter 1Perfectly, disgustingly hilarious! Although I do kind of feel as though this fic sort of... ended, and needed a bit more of a coda. Still, I love your Lestrade! |
done.with.marblesxx 2009-12-01 . chapter 1How could one ever incorporate Holmes and mummies into one story? :O Many applauses. This is really good. Oh, poor Lestrade, having to SMELL them all... Loved it. |
andi 2009-05-21 . chapter 1 great story:) It is crazy what people could get away with around the turn of the century - with world travel being in vogue - particularly travel to Egypt. Some of the best collections in the world of Egyptian art and mummies can be found in museums in countries where such 'souvenirs' were once fashionable - the Royal Museum of Scotland for one. The Denver science museum has two mummies and a collection of amulets - one mummy has a particularly interesting mystery. It is a woman - though the coffin art depicts a man - a famous scribe. She is encompassed in resin - perhaps to hide her true identity. They only discovered her secret recently by running her body through a series of medical scanners.
Anyways - great story:) To which movie do you refer? The yet to be released one with Downey Jr.? Can't be any worse than the travesty of the 1960s (?) version of the Hound of the Baskervilles. No one will ever replace Basil Rathbone as the best Holmes in my humble opinion. |
AmatorLinguae 2009-03-01 . chapter 1Wow... what a disgusting yet excellent case! I love Watson's and Holmes' reactions, especially when the doctor suddenly gets quiet... And the comment about Watson not caring if he sounded foolish! I plan to read this every time I have a long day at *my* job. :) |
Westron Wynde 2009-02-28 . chapter 1I don't think I've ever read another story that made quite so effective and original a use of mummies before. As ever, your story-telling is impeccable and your style so engaging that I wish there was more to read.
Brilliant - and thank you for introducing me to another great word! |
 Sarai 2009-02-25 . chapter 1I don't get the end. |
pebbles66 2009-02-25 . chapter 1*grins* "Mr. Holmes, are you going to eat that?" I love that - it didn't take Lestrade long to recover, did it?
I also love the part about Watson not minding sounding like an idiot when he was surprised. And Holmes simply getting up and filling Lestrade's flask with his private stash!
It's great! I'm glad to have another story from you to enjoy! |
shedoc 2009-02-25 . chapter 1ew... nasty... and no, holmes probably isn't going to eat that now... heh heh |
Merula-Xati 2009-02-25 . chapter 1Yes,indeed. Someone, somewhere is having a much worse day than I. Poor, poor Lestrade. He never does catch a break.
And my favorite line:
"That’s a devil of a bedside manner, doctor.”
“I learned it in Afghanistan.” |
reflekshun 2009-02-24 . chapter 1Aragonite, this is a really entertaining tale that has so much detail that you can just about see it happening around you. Thank you so much for sharing. I hope you do so soon; I really enjoy your stories. |
 KaizokuShojo 2009-02-24 . chapter 1Love your stuff, as usual~
"if there was a personable trait the two detectives shared, it was that they both would prefer to be as clean as cats given the choice…not that they often were!"
"With that movement a peculiar odor emanated from his clothing. It was subtle; like cologne applied yesterday with only the base notes remaining. Holmes’ eyes widened and he sat up. He did not know that odor. For the first time in years, he had encountered something new."
Lines like that are good reasons I do. XD
What a morbid sort of day for Lestrade.
Really great work~ |
 MarieThea 2009-02-24 . chapter 1Hah! Great story :D
Loved this paragraph in particular:
"Watson vanished from his spot at the library-table and re-materialized at his elbow. Lestrade thought the two men looked rather alike in moments like this; curiosity was not the only glue that bound them together, but it was a very powerful one."
Especially Watson vanishing and re-materializing and the emphasis on powerful. Good stuff!
Although, I confess, the idea of the mummies in ink/art or smelling them didn't bother me all that much. Have you read Aaron Elkins' mysteries with Gideon Oliver (The Bone Detective)? They're awesome...so I'll use them as an excuse :) |
Pompey 2009-02-24 . chapter 1"Are you going to eat that?" *headdesk* repeatedly. Of course, I had biology class right after lunch with a professor who did his Ph.D. work with tapeworms. Oh, the stories he told! (shudder).
Ah, the joys of being a Yarder! Smelling mummies is actually a less disgusting method than what I had in mind . . . which is not to say I'd like to do either test. Given the pictch and the natron, though, I don't think Lestrade actually had much to worry about in the way of pathogens. They speed up decay and the point of mummification is to route around that.
Still . . . eww. |
FoggyKnight 2009-02-24 . chapter 1I always love your stories, even when they are short. You come up with such interesting topics!
I don't quite understand what is putting everyone off their feed at the end. Is it because there is mummy dust in their newspapers? |
KCS 2009-02-24 . chapter 1*cackles* This is one of those rare gems that gets better and better with each reading. |
