I have been a longtime fan of your work, which initially got me interested in in the first place.. in fact, i've read your unlikely heroes series twice, and am still not tired of it. I'm happy to see that your writing prowess works equally well with a serious plot as it does with a humorous one, brilliant stuff. Write on!

Wow. Just... wow.

That was really incredible!

You mention you write original stories, as well? Interesting, as I'm a writer myself (and by that, I mean "not just fanfiction", and "looking to go professional one day"). Of course, I'm not as good as you. But maybe I can tell you about my stories some time. I don't want to fill a Review with mentions of my crappy stories. XD

Where do you post your original stories, if I may ask? Because I am currently looking for a good site to post my original stories that gets decent traffic. I am also rather interested in reading your own original stories.

Oh, and am I the only one who caught the hints that Thistle's Plasma Rifle is the unique "A3-21's Plasma Rifle" that you get from Harkness in the game? Sorry if that's wrong, because my inferring skills are terrible (which makes the subtleties of writing very hard for me, but I'm told by my family that I'm gifted with the ways different people speak. Dialogue and accents, and whatnot). But it's something that I picked up from some of Thistle's narrations... I hope I'm not wrong...

Well, thank you very much for the superior read. I look forward to the one involving Charon and the aliens (Xen, I believe the awkward hybrid's name was). I shall read it as soon as I get the chance. ^_^

Yes, I noticed what you did with the powering up and down of the energy weapons, but I felt it was an author's creative addition that needed no commentary.

I suppose Yao Guai, being bear-like creatures, would be good for hunting, but I would think they would be far too dangerous for human hunters to track and kill. In the game, a Yao Guai's Perception is so great that they often spot you before you spot them, which would make any human hunter unlikely to be able to shoot them down from a distance without them noticing. And it is just plain suicide to confront one directly, since running is impossible, and they possess the strength to crush your skull in one gentle strike.

Yes, as I mentioned before, I am a huge Yao Guai fan. Most prefer Deathclaws, but I myself have taken a fancy to Yao Guai. Granted, I am still fully aware that Deathclaws are tougher, stronger, and deadlier than the Yao Guai. I am not in denial, after all.

And I have, indeed, wondered about the lack of rain. But I just supposed that a rain mechanic was just something the game developers felt was unnecessary and a waste of data. So... feel free to add rain as you please! You are the author, after all.

Omigod! Fawkes-y! It's Fawkes-y! Omigodomigodomigod!

Sorry... Fangirl overload. -_-

Yeah... When I first played Fallout 3 and had to choose between two Followers, Dogmeat was a given ( <3 ). But I struggled for the longest time over Fawkes or Charon. I eventually settled on Charon since I arrived at Underworld long before the story took me to Vault 87. But my brother, who was playing the game roughly at the same time as me (albeit doing the story first and doing the sidequests later, as opposed to me who did all the sidequests along the way of the story), chose Fawkes, so I got to experience him through my brother's playthrough (mostly through watching, but he informed me of anything else that happened when I wasn't there to see it). And Fawkes. Is. Awesome!

Seriously, after getting attacked and assaulted by Super Mutants the entire game, finding an intelligent, friendly one who's willing to fight by your side is just plain awesome. X3

Hell, I ran into Uncle Leo near the start of my first playthrough. I thought he was the coolest thing ever before I found out about Fawkes. XD

I guess my love of Fawkes and Charon relates to my sub-obsession with my obsession with the lore of fictional lore: Different races. Whenever I build a world, I make sure there are different races, and that they each offer benefits and drawbacks (though I find it helps to make the non-Human races more advantageous than the Humans).

Anyway, sorry. I try to maintain a level of civility and professionalism when typing my reviews, but seeing Fawkes-y kinda sent me into fangirl overload. Quite sorry. T_T

Oh, while I'm geeking out in fangirlishness over here, another part of the Fallout lore I love: Robots. Protectrons, Mr. Handies, Mr. Gutsies, Robobrains, Sentry Bots, Eyebots, etc. The robots of the Fallout series are so kewl. Hell, Sergeant RL-3 would be my third favorite Follower if he just was able to level up with the player (and could join you when you weren't Neutral T_T ).

Very nice. Again, your writing is impeccable.

But like I mentioned earlier, a few corrections regarding the lore of Fallout.

Thistle's narration mentions her being weary of feral ghoul attacks. But feral ghouls don't bother other ghouls, not even the intelligent, civil ones. Did you do the "Ya Gotta Shoot 'em in the Head" quest from Mr. Crowley at Underworld? Well, Crowley's group that Tenpenny hired thought he was dead, because during the mission they locked him in a room full of feral ghouls and left him to die at their hands. Mr. Crowley survived because feral ghouls don't bother even the civil ghouls, so the feral ghouls mostly ignored him in the room, and Crowley was able to escape and plot his revenge. Tenpenny's hired group didn't know that feral ghouls didn't bother civil ghouls, so they assumed him to have been killed by them. Similarly, though I'm sure you know this, Super Mutants don't bother ghouls unless provoked.

Also, I feel I should mention that even though Moira's voice didn't change after becoming a ghoul, this is likely due to the laziness of Bethesda, as they didn't want to re-record all of Moira's dialogue. It's also possible that, after Ghoulification, a ghoul's voice takes some time to go raspy.

I feel I should also mention that there are actually a few friendly Glowing Ones. Two or so appear in one of the previous Fallout games, I believe. You can check the Vault Wiki.

Also, I'd think that a Stimpak would do more healing than you depicted. Thistle needed three to even partially heal a magnum shot through her stomach, and even then she didn't heal it significantly.

Oh, will you be featuring Super Stimpaks and Ultra Stimpaks? Because I disliked how they were left out of Fallout 3 (though the Super Stimpak icon in the modding tools suggests Super Stimpaks were intended at first, but decided against). I assume that the Super Stimpak's drawback from the game could be translated realistically with after the healing is done, or possibly during, the subject goes through teeth-clenching pain (since taking nine points of damage afterwards doesn't work outside of video games).

Anyway, can't wait to read on. ^_^

I must say, you have a very advanced writing style. This story is clearly worth my time, despite the number of chapters. I plan to stick with it. ^_^

As a fan of Ghouls, I must say that I'm happy to see a story involving a Ghoul main character. The fact that the Ghoul is female is also quite significant. Though I've found that female Fallout fans tend to like Ghouls more than male fans (Charon <3 ).

And I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who focuses on the mythos and lore. As an author, and an RPer, I specialize in worldbuilding. And while I don't develop my own languages for my "projects", as I call them, I am always extensive and detailed when it comes to building a proper world for the setting of the story, detailing every aspect of the world. And, naturally, I have trouble playing a game, watching a show, reading a book, etc. unless the world the story takes place in is immersive and full of detail. And Fallout definitely sets the stage for a unique world, despite the cliche post-apocalyptic theme.

And of the lore and mythos of Fallout, I'm especially a fan of Ghouls, Brahmin, and Yao Guai (Deathclaws are interesting, though).

Though, I feel I should make a few minor corrections as I read. I'll be doing that from time to time, if you don't mind.

Anyway, I can't wait to read more of this excellent-looking story. ^_^

You know, a few things annoyed me about Fallout's ending, one was that you couldn't just keep going (loved that in Oblivion, The Dragon was an excellent set piece) another was that despite having Fawkes in the chamber with me totally unaffected there was still no hidden 'no-one dies' option.

This story is at the exact same level as the other Fallout fic you have written. That is to say, it's very, very good indeed.

Now much as I would love to type more in this review, heaven knows this story deserves it, I haven't slept in a few days, have important stuff to do today and it's nearly 7 o'clock.

Why did you make your stories so annoyingly good ;) ?

Peace out and Rock on,

P.S. Too. Tired. For. Humour.

P.P.S. Bad. Or. Otherwise.

Well, I'm impressed. You did manage to convey that sense of people living through what they leave behind, especially with the ending. I don't mind the episodic nature, as life itself doesn't often have an overarching plot, either. In some ways I find Black As Oil to be more sophisticated, perhaps because it's the second one, and it seems to have a fairly continuous story. But this is subtler, I think, and carries a deeper message. All in all, well done, and I look forward to reading more of your work. :)

I like this it may well be the greatwst fallout fanfic evermade and also u managed to get throuht it lacking the dry humor of the game. That ruined the game for me personelly the fact that A bunch of people in a post apatilitec world crackin jokes also i like how u could feel the characters emoitens.Despite some readers negitivety i find hothing wrong. The thing most beutiful is the happiness at the end.The thing i find sad is that it ended. Also please countinue your work on Black has Oil. Amazing fic and im glad i got the chance to read it. Thanks

This was a really great story. Probably the best Fallout fic out there.

Concerning the A/N at the beggining, I've found in the presidential metro a single charred skelleton, with a .38 in his hand, a bundle of pre-war money and an Earinings or Financial clipboard.
Meaning? One guy shot himself in teh head over a bankrupt a few hours before the bombs. Why a few hours? otherwise it would have been cleaned up.
My thoughts: Maybe there was a huge financial crisis in the few days before the boom boom.

PS: In my playthrough, I've found Gary 1, just saying =)

Hm. The Mutie genitalia is not non-functional nor does it fall off. At least the Master mutants seem to retain them, and feel something down there, as seen that Marcus can be taken to "Pleasure ladies" in fallout 2. And it seems they are "functional" though sterile, since it seems something should come out (Though that is pure speculation from my part.)
