Eclectic Me 7/17/10 . chapter 29I know it's very late, but I was going through the archives looking for another story, and this one caught my interests, so I thought I'd read and review it. Now let's see if I can remember all I was gonna say here... I always do that: read a long story, decide to wait 'til the end to review, and then lose track of most of my points. First of all as I say to all authors who write such stories, I love almost any story that involves human-muggle interaction! That this is truely one of the best stories I've read in a long time! I'm very sad to see that it has gone dorment. I know it's been 8 years, but do you see any possibility of that situation changing? I know so much has to have changed in that time... Anyway, I do like Ari, and her take-action attitude and sharp wit. I found it cute and sweet how, although I don't know if it was intentional, a few moments while they were driving to Hogwarts had a delightfully domestic feel, particularly when they were almost there and Snape was sleeping on the passenger's seat while Harry was lying in back. That whole part of it, (I can't call it a scene for it was several chapters), was exciting, and also funny in some places! When they were at the gas station it seemed to me that they would look more like they were having a kinky good time than a fight, what with him twisting here arm and holding her over the car hood. At least I thought, that's how the drunk guys might see it, and I kinda thought they did at first. And then there's the whole idea of Snape agreeing to travel with a muggle in the first place. I mean, it was an emergency, and he didn't have much of a choice, but it was still pretty amazing and awesome. Oh, and then let's not forget she hit a dementor with her car, awesome! I wonder if that killed it? I wonder if anything can?
Moving on, one of my favorite under-rated characters is Prof. Flitwick, and I'm glad you gave him such a substantial part. I love him, but it's kind of hard to judge his personality and mannerisms as he's an unfortunately minor character. From what I can tell, you did him justice. He's good-natured and kind, and obviously must be intelegent to be in Ravenclaw, and driven and motivated in order to be a professor and head of house.
These new muggle studies lessons sound interesting, especially since the professors are getting them as well. That scene in the shreeking shack, hmph! Would've been grand if Ari had reminded both Snape and Black from her hospital bed that they were partly responsible for what happened! Speaking of Sirius, are you hinting slightly at a Remus/Sirius pairing? I'm not a fan of thinking of them as gay, but if you are I don't have a problem with it. As for Snape and Ari, it's..an interesting relationship, and you're handling both characters well I think. I do think Ari loves Snape, or at least, they both feel a physical atraction for each other. Not really being the romanc fanfic sort though, (only with canon pairings and only then sometimes), I'm more interested in their relationship as sort of a proactive therapy for Snape if you will.
Two final points I want to make, and then I must get to bed, lol. First, those Dutch chocolate frogs you mentioned sound excelent! I wish I knew someone in Holand I could get to send me some... Are they seasonal, or sold year round? Also, have you ever studied or been involved in anthropology? At at least a few places in the story and notes at the end, you mentioned myths and cultures and that sort of thing. Just made me wonder.
Once again, great story! There were some spelling and grammar errors and the like. If you want, I can go through chapter by chapter and point them out, although it won't be for a while as I'll be a bit busy in the next few weeks. |
