GAWD, you win subtext.

I LOVE how perfectly you handle Derek's perspective; it's fun to watch what's going on in his (Nasty-Dirty-Boy) mind, and to see him vacillating between being Totally Annoyed by Casey and Inadvertently, Unexpectedly Attracted to her before he remembers he's not supposed/doesn't WANT to be and 'mentally smacks himself away' from the Slightly-Less-Than-Purely-Brotherly thoughts.

And all the minutiae of their interactions...wiffle balls. Impressive. The silent exchanges that happen between them while the other isn't looking, the open-faced dialogues (bickering matches?) they have in which BOTH parties persistently MISS what the other is communicating --albeit usually caustically, crudely, and embedded in SEVERAL layers of subtext and emotional FAIL (on the part of Derek, at the very least)...it's a wonder they've managed to get along as much as they have (and I realize that isn’t saying much), what with all the For-the-Principle-Of-It hate-mongering and nigh PALPABLE UST. What we have, gentlemen, is a failure to communicate.

Meanwhile.

Another fantastic story (I’m not even sure it’d be possible for you to write anything I DON’T immediately love), missus.

Wow, I don't think it's possible to get Derek and Casey any more in character. Great picture of a relationship on the precipice of becoming so much more.

*sigh* This one shot is so wonderfully written, that it's a shame how it's not going to continued.
Telling the story in Derek's point of view adds a bit of crude humor and depth to the show. It's funny how he bothers Casey each and every day, but helps her out in the end, huh? Casey is so oblivious at times.

I like all of your work.

I absolutely *adored* it. I think you write DerekCasey SO well, very in-character. This could have been an episode totally, because all the non-show part is Derek's thoughts (and I could imagine Mike giving his intense expressions. Mike ships Dasey. I'm sure of it. Have you ever *seen* how he looks at her half the time...of course you have!)

And I *loved* Derek's thought. Just a natural progression from totally innocent sentences. He's is *such* a teenage guy, isn't he!

As for that giving lip part sounding dirty just about killed me...it was hilarious!

And I think your stories are so much like episodes because they have subtle episode touches that have remained with you but you can't put into words and generally don't notice (I'm proud of having noticed them :D)
1)Derek putting his feet on Casey (March Break)
2)Casey glowing and huge eyes (Derek's dream!Casey in Crushing the Coach)
3)I *never* listen to you (Although it was said by Casey in the episode. Bully Brothers)
4) Derek talking to Casey while in bed (such a LOT of episodes, it blows your TV screen)
5)Casey's look when she wakes up (Lies My Brother Told Me)
and more, which I'd written down (I'm such a sucker) but forgot! :(

I could actually see this as an episode! it completely works as a derek-centric one-shot w/ a little dasey but if u get inspiration I always like one side and then another - u know a 2 shot of casey-centric...yes I'm demanding ;) but like I said it works either way and kind of reminds me of the episodes because it is open-ended.
