2009-12-04 . chapter 7
Wow - i read all chapters of this story in one sitting - i just couldn't stop. First off, thank you for the flashbacks to middle school and high school English class - it didn't click until "hills like white elephants" that they were all short story titles!

I love the characterization. I think those "awkward" moments are brilliant too - the way you write them is very real. I also think the pace of the story is perfect - not pushing them together too fast, but still managing to move things along bit by bit and still maintaining interest in the story throughout. Well done!

I adore your stories. Haven’t read them in a year or so, but “Sometime Around Midnight” reminded me of the fact why I like them. They feel real. I never end up questioning the characters, or their actions, or spoken words, or thoughts because you make them realistic enough for me to believe every sentence of your story.

The beginning almost made me squeal from excitement that Sasuke was a teacher and Naruto was his student, since that’s one of the scenarios I find the most enjoyable--must be a kink of mine of sorts. The development of their relationship was stalled, but nevertheless it only seemed to increase my interest and I waited patiently to see where it would go [even if that's painful to do at 3 am]. It was good that we could not read Sasuke’s thoughts, because it added more mystery and intrigue to his person--possibly the way Naruto saw him. And the latter’s constant internal conflicts and emotional turbulence were a joy to read since you described them so well, making the blond so much deeper and more complicated than he normally seems.

I had tears in my eyes when Sasuke finally kissed Naruto in the end, an expression of happiness on my part, almost like a sigh of relief that those two would finally start to work things out better.

Thank you so much. It was a lovely story to read.

Oh, man, I always do this to myself. I saw when I started reading this story that it was incomplete and hadn't been updated in a while, but there's a note on your profile saying it's not dead, and you've been active lately, so I felt fairly safe starting to read it, anyway. Of course, I was so into it and reading so intently that I didn't notice that I was on the last chapter until I got to the end, went to hit the >> button, thought "Hunh?" when it wasn't there, and then actually said "No. No, no, no..." !
Obviously, I'm thoroughly enjoying this story. College-AU!Naruto is one of my not-so-secret and only-mildly-guilty pleasures, but I've read so many and some are so awful that I don't really seek them out anymore. I actually stumbled onto you via one of your other stories, and liked your writing there so much that I decided to read more of your stuff. The summary for this one really intrigued me.
I like your attention to small details. I like your Sasuke. I like all your renditions of the characters. There isn't a single one that I think is not a good translation from the Narutoverse to our world. I also think it's fantastic that, rather than try to use some vague, unidentified, partially-real university, you've actually used a real place. This is done a lot in published novels, TV shows, and other 'professional' writing, but it seems like fan fiction authors are often afraid to do it. It adds such a realism to the story - even though I know nothing about the University of Missouri, and have never been there, the real names of places, streets, etc, make the story that much more palpable.
I can't wait to read the rest of it. I don't know what you've got in mind for this story, but I feel like it could have a long life to it. I hope there are many more chapters to come.

Oh wow! Your story is, like, amazing, dattebayo! Yes i'm annoying with that... Anyways, I love this, besides the fact that it portrays the characters really well, and it's so enjoyable to read, but all the things about writing and author's and... just... it shows Passion. Your passion, and it shines, like, it's not the main part of the story, but its such a big part of all the plot and dynamics going on! I'm learning things I only ever gloss over in my mind by reading this, everything that Naruto and Sasuke say about writing, what they complement or idealize about it, is such a highlight for me. ^^ I'm so happy I stumbled on this, it is so, awesome! I can't wait for the next chapter, really, I can't! I've never enjoyed something like this before, by something like this I mean something that doesn't have a lot of angst, sadness, over-overemotional-y-ness :D, disaster, tragedy, morbidness... etc... yeah. This is soo awesome, AWESOME, it's like, a light in the poor accounts of things I've read. :D I love, love, love this, and I'm pretty sure that I haven't read about smexy(...) Sasuke with glasses. ^^ And, again, the way you portray the characters and their quirks is just... keen. I LOVE THIS! and YOU! It's amazing, and just awesome, and... I probably should put in some type of constructive criticism, but... really, this is a beautiful piece, and I can't think of anything helpful. TT.TT Sorry... This is the longest review I've ever give... O.o Update soon, please, please, I beg of you. I prostrate myself before you and plead and beg... and if you're the kind of person who gets creeped(sp?) out by that, I bribe you with virtual honey and lavender Italian ice! Or cake, which ever you prefer... YOU RULE <3 ^^

Seriously I wish I knew what was going on in your mind when you write. Hell I wish I knew you. Maybe then that way I would have a better understanding of your unique talent. I envy the ones who know you on a personal level, really truly envy them.

They kissed! What an ending! MORE! This is where I gush a lot so you think about updating the story with a new chapter.

What really makes this story awesome is your attention to the small details - Naruto's stupid metal mailbox, his lopsided grin, and Sakura's strawberry blond hair. I know these may seem like small details, I think they give the story it's depth.

Naruto's relationship with Sakura is sweet. You can tell they really care about each other, but definitely not in a romantic way.

Given the spoilers I've read this week for Naruto ch. 469, Sakura's Confession, my eyes bugged out a mile when I read: Naruto crawled over to her. “Sakura Haruno, are you confessing your love to me?” He teased affectionately, poking her in the shoulder.

Bwaa ha ha ha ha! No way! The last time you updated the story was 5/20/09. Either you can see into the future or I'm very clueless and it was obvious to everyone but me that this was going to happen.

Somehow with one sentence you can sum up a whole situation or person, like the following:

"Naruto scowled and squinted at his teacher distrustfully. He folded his arms across his chest and looked to his left, at a tall metal bookshelf where a lot of the books weren't upright, instead, they were slumped over to the side, leaning against one another for support."

and this one:
“You can’t fight every injustice in the world no matter how badly you want to.”

Anyway, love the story! Look forward to your next update.

I loved the classroom banter between Naruto and Sasuke. It was funny when Naruto put his foot in his mouth right when Sasuke was going to tell him something important. Naruto and is lopsided grin. That imagery makes me smile.

Enjoy how Naruto interacts with his friends.

I loved this line: Naruto gradually looked up. “You’d… really go that far for me? So amazing.

I was going to wait til the last chapter to review again, but this chapter was even better than the last.

Love it! I just found this story and I'm hooked! The dialogue between Naruto and Sasuke is amazing, intelligent and funny. They both know how to push each other's buttons, resulting in some tension between them.

I like the way you've incorporated canon aspects of their personalities, but have expanded on them so they are three dimensional characters. In the first chapter Naruto even surprised his friends when he revealed he is actually smarter than he normally acts.

I like how you've set up their relationship. Even thought Sasuke is his teacher, they seem more like equals. Naruto is still looking for Sasuke's approval/recognition but here Sasuke seems willing to reciprocate and encourage him.

Right now we know more about Naruto and his circle of friends, I'm wondering how Sasuke's family and friends will be potrayed. So, I guess I'll just have to read the rest and find out.
