Kyre 2002-08-11 . chapter 13I never did get around to reviewing this chapter! I meant to, but then things got in the way, and I kept procrastinating. Anyway, I like the way this wrapped up. I like the way Logan convinced Max to stick around for a while, I like Max's jealousy of Kara, I like Alec's gift, I looove the image of Max gently waking Logan up to tell him to go to bed, I like Grace's reaction to Normal's thing and Alec's promise to make it go away, and I like the potential for good stories with Father Destry. Good stuff. |
Kasman 2002-03-09 . chapter 13Wonderful. This would make a great episode script. Certainly better than some of the rubbish the official writers have churned out this season. |
SusanK. 2002-02-06 . chapter 13 It's just too sad to read ANY final chapter to your stories! I loved the M/L exchanges, like Logan's almost petulant "I've just had a huge adventure...How often do you get to hear about my cat-burgling?" and all the little hints for the next installment: the money left by Alec for future use, or Logan's thought about "the machine." But, as I often found in your trilogy, I look forward most to the Grace parts. She is a wholly amazing and real character, with all the right sentiments and a great gift to say and do the right thing. And who else gets flowers from Reagan Ronald? Favorite line? "I don't understand how can I love someone knowing that he doesn't love me back." This chapter hopefully didn't really say THE END, but TBC. Please do! |
a fan 2002-02-06 . chapter 4"You had a pretty romantic picture of yourself built up there, buddy, he told himself, the suffering hero, intimately acquainted with despair and darkness. You thought you knew everything there was to know about self-loathing -- until it happened to the woman you love, and then you didn't have a clue." You have an amazing way of seeing with absolute clarity what has happened to the characters. I also like that fact that Logan recognizes these feelings in himself and in Max. "Because the virus couldn't even cast a shadow on his love for her, he had been blind to how deeply it had damaged her love for herself." Who better than a man who has experienced these things himself to understand what Max is going through. This is the fiting explanation for everything Logan has done this season. Amazing insights. Great analogy comparing Logan's news to being hit by a truck. I didn't quite believe Grace's resolution to cancel the adventure. Happily for me neither did the turn of events. Great chapter. |
a fan 2002-02-05 . chapter 3I like Grace's sense of adventure. She's even able to find 'mystery' in meeting Logan at a dive. "Later she thought to herself that after the other times he'd given her that look, the times he was about to tell her something she didn't want to hear, that she would have seen it coming. But she was too excited. She didn't get it." And neither did I at this point. I love the way you've woven the events of the Night Visitor and the early season 2 eps. Not only was it seemless it also made for some great drama. I wasn't quite expecting Grace's intense response. This was woman has so many facets to her personality. I love her! Great chapter. |
Zanna 186 2002-02-05 . chapter 13A very good ending with most of the loose ends neatly tied, and just enough of them left untied to leave things open for any future stories. After reading the last two paragraphs, I have to ask, are we looking at a possible Grace/Max/Father Destry adventure next? Please, say that it is so because it sounds like it could be a lot of fun. |
 motorcycle_angel(margaret) 2002-02-05 . chapter 13 great story!:) |
Aerie 2002-02-05 . chapter 13 Just wanted to let you know how excited I am that the story is finished. I'm going back & read John Doe, a painfully wonderful story, then the Night Visitor, then all of this one.
I'm very excited when a story is finished & I know it won't be abandoned.
Thank you - thank you. |
 motorcycle_angel(margaret) 2002-02-01 . chapter 12 these were good chapters i can't wait 2 read more |
Jude Mustard 2002-02-01 . chapter 12Hmm..it occurs to me that Max may have made her deal with God way before BBWW--even as far back as the Pilot, when Logan was first shot. Would kinda explain why she got herself involved in doing his Eyes Only work :) Nice.
Poor Logan. Twenty-four hours cooped up in there--his bladder must have exploded. [Jude slaps herself. Be nice!] Love how the not-annoying side of Alec comes out in this chapter. So, he has a new found respect for Logan, huh? Got a good heart under all that cynicism and the tough-** attitude, that kid. Kinda reminds me of someone else we know ;) |
a fan 2002-02-01 . chapter 2Great reunion of Max and Grace "I'm looking everywhere for an old friend's phone number.." Obviously the voice she heard was not familiar enough. I loved the ensuing conversation with its confusion and multiple subjects. Max's humorous 'We've hit all the major species so far." and "Wack job" comments and Grace's 'escaped from where?' are not only great lines, but flow directly from their personalities showing us Max's sarcastic sense of humour once again and Grace's desire to avoid everything 'Eyes Only'. I love Alec's irritating 'brotherly' qualities especially his comment about Grace and Max's subsequent reaction. Good thing the boy is X5 or else he will be black and blue from her response every time he opens his mouth. Max's intense reaction to his innocent "Oh yeah? Who died and left you boss?" reminds us that is exactly what happened to her when Zack was 'killed'. Finally you did a great job showing us Grace's fascination, curiosity and annoyance at being involved with Max and Logan once again. Despite her frustration at the situation and the obvious tension between them I think she can't help but love Max.
"Okay, okay, it's just an expression --" |
a fan 2002-02-01 . chapter 1I've been reading your story all along, but found myself saying 'there's too much here to comment on right now. I promise I'll leave a review later. Well it's finally 'later' so it's time for some comments!
One of the things I love about your writing is that everything you right has a purpose. Having Grace looking at a cute 'angel' on the cover of a tabloid was a great lead into this story as her subsequent conversation with the cleaning lady quickly clarified. Kara's quick meeting with Julie not only lets us know that she is definitely going to be a part of this fic it also gives us a great snapshot of her personality. I loved her 'what do they see in him' attitude about Logan. Finally Logan and Max's scene in the bar was really well done. I liked your use of Max's skills by having her listen to the TV. Her "I think I'm feeling the need for a little spiritual guidance before bedtime," is a classic line. You've also done a wonderful job with 'season 2' Logan, his simple pleasure at spending any time with Max, his desire to see her happy and the tenderness they share. Great first chapter! |
Jude Mustard 2002-02-01 . chapter 11Of course Kara would go and forget about Logan. I like how you've made her the only female immune to his charms, and established the reason for that right back in the first chapter of this story.
Love that bit about Max making a deal with God to save Logan. Although, if she wasn't talking about the time he was sick from the virus, the only other time I can think of that he was dying and she might have made such a deal is in BBWW when he needed a blood transfusion. So Max loved him enough to make such a deal as long ago as that ;)
I've been following your story for a while but this is the first time I've reviewed it--I'm sorry! I have to say that you have a wonderful grasp of the characters and the interplay between them is perfect. I like that Max trusts Grace enough to tell her about the virus now, when she was afraid to do so before. You've made them *real* people with real emotions and real actions, which is why I enjoy reading about them so much. I'll be sorry to see this story end. |
Zanna 186 2002-02-01 . chapter 12Ahhh...nothing like being ganged up on by a bunch of Steelheads to convince you that maybe Mom and Dad aren't so bad after all. Glad to see Isabelle coming to her senses. Great interaction between Max and Grace in this chapter, but that seems to be the case with everyone that Grace comes into contact with. She's just that great a character. One gets the feeling that despite what she says about how much she resents being pulled into the danger of Max and Logan's world, she secretly enjoys the rush and the excitement. And I can hardly blame her. These last two chapters have been thrilling. Can I hope for more in the next chapter? Maybe Logan will get a hold of that machine that the Steelheads have and we'll get to find out what's eating Alec. |
Kyre 2002-01-31 . chapter 12Oooh, nice save, having the van pull up and whisk Grace and Isabelle away without noticing the transgenics. Good way to wrap up that plotline. (Still doesn't tell us how Isabelle got mixed up with the Steelheads though. ;) ) I like seeing Joshua get into the action, instead of staying in the house almost all the time like he does on the show. Question...if Alec had told Max she should let Grace have Logan, why was he surprised Grace and Logan had been sleeping together? Had he just assumed Grace *wanted* Logan but hadn't gotten him? Anyway, nice to see that Joshua defended Grace; wonder if that will tell Grace Joshua doesn't hate her, like she figured he did. Oh, and right on with Alec's last comment; it's just like his character on the show to blow off the truth (at least I think it's the truth) with a less-serious defensive answer. |
