This story fits in canon very easily. Laurence was always more open-minded that most of his colleagues, and I can see him forming bond with Jane when he was still a Naval officer.

Oh, joy, what an excellent story! And it even wasn't that AU, but plausible what-if story that could very easily be a part of canon, me thinks; actually it'd have been very interesting if Will had met Jane earlier... But could Excidium really fit to land onto a normal ship..? Just a thought that suddenly came to me, but will do quite well ignored. ;)

As for in-charactherness; perfect. Laurence was Laurence all the way to his reactions, and Jane was Jane. :D We definitely need more Temeraire fiction! We've severe lack of it in .
