aloralora 8/28/11 . chapter 1I like your exploration of Mr Thornton's thoughts and life after Margaret left and when he learnt the truth about her brother. Thank you too for expanding on the visit to Helstone. So tragic that he missed the train! |
The Ashes Fan 6/22/10 . chapter 1This is such a bittersweet story! I like how you let the reader know her only just missed her and his chance of happiness by missing the train. It is as fantastic as ever! Well done! |
snapeophile 12/31/09 . chapter 1*laughs* Just 'cause I don't like the ending doesn't mean I can't love this piece-your exploration of John's thoughts and feelings is wonderful. |
happyrike 7/20/09 . chapter 1nice story :) okay, great would fit better, but I just don't like the ending - what about the happy ending? Don't you think Margaret would have visited him...after a few years?oh...now there's only poor John -.-
But his emotions, thoughts, etc are really good written |
elwren75 5/7/09 . chapter 1This is a beautiful and poignant line: "He had seen the look of absolute tenderness on her face as she had embraced that man – he could not have imagined that; it was burned into his brain forever. His heart had caught in his throat at that look, of such devotion and – and this was the part that hurt the most – such familiarity. How long had she loved that other man?" And it perfectly reflects Johns hurt and confusion. Beautifully done. This as well: "her father the parson awaited them inside, ready to join them in holy matrimony. There was her mother in the pew, and there were all of her friends, moved by her joy. He took it all in as a blur, his thoughts entirely focused on the slim arm that was slipped through his with the confidence of familiar love as they slowly walked up the aisle together. And like that, unshaven, with his cravat missing, his sleeves rolled up, and his coat slung over his shoulder, John Thornton wed Margaret Hale."
The whole scene is wonderful and your writing would fit in with the book's prose perfectly. Thank you. |
Decca31 4/17/09 . chapter 1I really liked this, well done. Not so sure about the ending, to tell you the truth. Do you really think they would have remained apart even if they hadn't met at the train station?
I read some of your bio and ooh, I also love this adaptation of North and South. Richard Armitage is godlike to me. I also like Twilight though.. Did you know that one of the main characters in that is named Hale? Coincidence? Who knows... |
smallrose 4/13/09 . chapter 1He missed her! That's horrible! All the same, this is a really good piece of writing. |
ILoveHarryJamesPotter 4/2/09 . chapter 1You changed the ending!
See as I've only seen the BBC series, based on that I think you've captured the emotions behind his visit to Helstone perfectly :)
I like Thornton...is he as awesome in the book as he is in the BBC series? |
Rebby-Eowyn 3/28/09 . chapter 1This is so beautiful! I never really thought about what Thornton might have felt when going to Helston, but you describe it as if you had found this missing peace of the book.
The end was sad in a way, but it didn't leave me unsatisfied. If they had never met at the station in the mini series they probably never would have found each other... so that's also an alternative.
Well done indeed! :) |
