justalittleloco 2009-03-28 . chapter 1I was initially drawn to this story because it shares the title of a song I am rather fond of. It turns out, this story doesn't need the fond association, as it is a wonderful oneshot in its own right.
I have always thought of this song as rather unimpressively faux-romantic. It makes me feel quite cynical, really, as my first response is "she's not coming." I mean, wouldn't she go to your house first?
This story, this sad story that brought tears to my eyes has changed that perception.
I thought this story was well-woven, that your choice of perspective was genius, and that its content was heart-breaking. Although I would prefer that Dr. Brennan not die, I've always thought that if she were to die an untimely death, it would be a loud, messy, violent production of one. I always thought that if someone were to kill her, it would take a bunch of someones. That, however, was my only qualm with the story. You have painted a vivid image in my mind, and have crafted a piece that is poignant and bittersweet.
I applaud you, and hope to see more of your work soon. However, if all of your future pieces are as sad as this one, my tear ducts will never forgive you.
Thanks,
