The absolute complexity of what you've presented here is simply amazing. I adore the polemics of Perry and JD's relationship - how Perry has always wished JD to remove the cheery attitude, and that it's only when JD does, and becomes something closer to Perry himself, that he realises he'd do anything to get the old JD back.

I really wish that something like this would occur in the show. I've only seen bits and pieces, but the way they're stomping on their relationship in the latest episodes makes me want to cry. Nobody wants everything to be peachy keen, but they don't want it to be horrible, either. If something like this were to happen, it would go a long way to justify things in a realistic way, and restore at least part of their amazing relationship.

Getting back to your story (sorry for the rambling), this small peice of "late-night angst" never continues to amaze me. It really is a beautiful one-shot. I love how the beard sort of does it for Perry, and brings him back to Season Five when he grew his out, before letting him realise that he really doesn't want JD to end up like him. The emotions you've portrayed in this piece are seriously Scrubs standard. I could imagine this playing out in front of me with the uptmost clarity.

Wow...this is a really good fic. Very emotional, and I love the last line (Ah, Scrubs-nostalgia-flashback-moment)! (Also, is this kind of what's happening in Season 8? It's only just started over where I live, and it's not on at a good time, so I'm just gonna wait for it on DVD...so yeah. Are they making JD become more like Dr Cox? Gah, I hope there are still sweet mentor/protege moments between them!!) But anyway, that has nothing to do with this fic. Which is excellent! :)

There are SO few brilliantly written Scrubs fics out there, but this was fantastic. I love this, I love the premise, the language, the callbacks. You clearly know Scrubs as a true fan would. More Scrubs fics, please!
