You know, this really helped me understand Petunia a little more. I know she was jealous of Lily in canon, but I never connected that to why she spoiled Dudley, she didn't want him to feel less than like she did as a kid. If only JKR's Petunia had taken that extra step and pledged to bring Harry up to be the best person he could be and prove that magic or not she and Vernon, like the majority of muggles, are worth mor than Wizards give them credit for. This woul make an excellent first chapter to a retelling of the Harry Potter story, if you were so inclined. Even if you aren't, thank you for making me think and clearing up a few things.

I love this. Where Petunia sticks it to the magical world and it's reasonable and they're not evil and they're determined that Harry will be amazing because he was raised by muggles, not despite it and that Dudley will bloody well succeed too and he'll be happy about it.

This is an amazing beginning! I love this version of Petunia! I hope you complete this story one day.

I like it because I haven't seen anywhere else, where anyone took Petunia's thoughts and feelings into account. Dumbledore certainly didn't... :D

This storie's heavier than your other ones but good. I like how your showing the magical community from a normals POV. It's not just about dark VS light, ALL magicals have ideological issues with "muggles" that they don't allow themselves to see. It would be interesting if they get hooked up with the Granger's before Hogwarts.

Wow! Amazing story! I love the insights you have into Petunia's head and the way that she considers the canon and then dismisses it, dismisses that life that would make her feel good, for the sake of Dudley. This story could go so many ways: a scientific Harry, a Harry who is uninterested in the magical world and so refuses the letter, a Harry who is smarter and more logical and changes the wizarding world (before, during, or after the second war). Please write more in this universe.

look at this line, "Because while it remains a cat, I can have choices, broad options, a life of my own making."

She's trying to make herself believe it's a cat and not a person.

Umm... is Harry a cat, or did he or the attack accidenally change him into an Animagus cat?

You know, this could turn into a good story. Having a SuperPowerful!SuperSmart/Genius-level!Harry working in the shadows of the Wizarding (and maybe the Muggle) World(s) gathering up intelligence about the different ideas/practices Magic, both Magical and Mundane.

They could also find a multi-compartment trunk attached to something of/on Harry like some of the ones in some fanfics he commonly buys.

Or maybe you could cross it over with Stargate and have them accidentally find something that gives all of the Dursleys and Harry the Ancient/Alteran gene so they can find and use a hidden Ancient Repository(?).
