omg A-MAZING!

Absolutely beautiful. Your writing is impeccable, and this story itself is fantastic (so rare to find authors -fanfiction or otherwise- who can write wonderfully and create wonderful stories to match the prose).
Besides the incredible characterizations, I think what I love most about this piece is that it fits snugly into cannon. The best "non-cannon" (almost cannon?) fics are the ones that don't disrupt the original book.
How poignant this is. Severus and Lily having one beautiful, doomed moment together.

Ah. It's pleasant to read about Lily when she realizes that she isn't perfect, either. And it feels to me like she, James, Sirius and Harry are being staked out as bait. I'm glad Snape risked his life to try to help them, even if all he got was a "you disgust me" in return. Someone has to do what is right, even without hope of rewards (though it was quite nice to see he finally got one). At least in this story he didn't die without ever being loved.

Naturally, after reading Ch. 40 of Solace I had to read this. I've just recently taken more of an interest in SS/LEP, as I have always been a SS/HG shipper.

You have a wonderful talent for pulling the reader into the story. I'd always wondered how Lily went from disliking James so much to marrying him. You make me think she might have thrown herself at James, knowing he fancied her, just to get back at Severus for the Mudblood incident at end of 5th year. Got pregnant from the fling and married for the baby's sake, never really having stopped loving Severus through the whole thing. The depth of SS feelings seems to indicate more to his relationship with Lily than that of just friends.

I almost didn't read this, as according to the heading, you have Severus listed as linked with Lily LUNA Potter ... that'd be Harry and Ginny's daughter! Skimming down through it first, I realized that you didn't mean Lily Luna - thank goodness.

This was so poignant and perfect...I thought it was especially beautiful that they didn't sleep together. I'd like to think this actually happened, somewhere along the line. Brilliant work.

This line especially struck me: 'You've always been braver than me, Sev.'

Reminds me of Dumbledore's cruel comment in Severus's memories, at the end of Deathly Hallows: 'Sometimes I think we Sort too soon.'

Oh, God. Beautiful. I don't know if I can capture all I am thinking and feeling about this piece in one review. Severus and Lily's unrequited canon relationship was so tragically romantic, and now to experience it in such a detailed and poignant way in fanfic is heart-wrenching and wonderful. I can see why Esmestrella beta'd this for you -- I love her LE/SS pieces as well.

I'm working on a Lily/Severus/James piece right now and you echoed so much of my piece with yours. It is uncanny, actually. You and I are totally on the same wavelength about our interpretation of them -- their downfalls, their mistakes, their possibilities. These are a few of my favorite things in here; points that struck me and I said, "YES...!"

/ This was why she had ended it with him: this intensity, this seeming imbalance, wavering back and forth between cold stoicism and hot, searing passion without a moment’s notice. It had terrified her once. How could she have so soon forgotten? / This was why she had married James, sweet, predictable, uncomplicated James... / As unpredictable and moody as he could be, at least he made her feel alive / She was burning with a desire that she hadn’t felt since she was a girl; a desire, she suddenly realized, that only he seemed able to awaken. /

*GAH* That's the best way I can describe this, as lame as that is. Oh, and Harry is absolutely adorable here, with his chubby little fingers and mop of messy baby hair. I don't know if I've ever read a fic where Harry's character was a baby but I loved it. Such a nice new perspective.

M, so much to love about this story. The angst is beautiful, you can feel Severus' longing for Lily, even Lily's love for her friend. This is the care we all wish he would have received. What if, indeed. Thanks for a wonderful fic!

“and she wondered that James hadn’t picked up on it as she stood behind him in the sitting room.” I always think of James as kind of think in some things, so I don’t think he picked up, but I do think that Sirius did with his doggie abilities.IMO Now I'm wondering what he will do.
