Cassiopeia Andromeda Heracles 2/16/03 . chapter 3 Cassiopeia Andromeda Heracles(just incase xing steals my review again)
I was thinking that I shouldn't have re-read this, because I KNEW it would make Peter hate himself and go sulk, but then I read the third one, and I'm glad I did, because now he is happy, and... What are you doing, Peter? Peter! Get out of her fic!
There was a know at the door, and a voice called "Peter? Peter!" A horribly, horribly familiar voice.
"Great," Peter muttered, "now I'm imagining things."
"Oh.., you didn't lock it."
The door swung open. Peter turned away quickly. He didn't want to see who was there. Whether because he feared it was who it sounded like, or hoped it was, he didn't know. Or, he told himself, care, since it didn't matter - it COULDN'T be who it sounded like.
He heard footsteps approach him, and someone put their hand on his shoulder.
"Peter..."
The memories - the horrible, wonderful memories, searing his heart - came flooding back, and he fell apart. "James..?" He could FEEL the smile, the wonderful, horrible, familiar smile. "H-h-buthow?"
"Special permission from Heaven... the Lord feels this is just the nudge you need."
Peter was silent, thinking...
It was probably nothing more than intelligent self-preservation, but if there was really a Heaven, then there was really a Hell, too...
"Well, I can't force you - God doesn't like forcing people, but I'll be hoping and praying that you make the right choice."
But Peter had already made it, though perhaps for the wrong reason.
I see you're back from your little excursion into another imagination, Peter.
That was really a cruel trick to play on youself, you know.
"It got him onto the right path."
The ends justify the means?
"Not always, but in this case, yes, they do."
Incase you couldn't tell, "James" was an illusion Peter-from-my-head created - and, I have to admit, a rather good one. |
JKLB 7/16/02 . chapter 3Oh, I like. Chapter 1 was really great: In discussing morality, Snape sets Pettigrew on the path toward the Death Eaters while Pettigrew sets Snape on the path toward eventual redemption.
And then they meet again at the crucial moment when Pettigrew is considering joining the DE's and Snape is about to realize that he has to leave them. It reminds me a little of the ending of "Interview with a Vampire" by Anne Rice. (Louis spends all night trying to explain that he made the wrong choice centuries ago, but the interviewer walks out of the room wanting to be a vampire.)
I don't mind the cliffhanger ending one bit.
P.S. If you ever get a chance, please read my story "Look at the rat" as it is a Snape/Pettigrew story too. Thanks! |
Memento Mori 4/2/02 . chapter 3 I'm sorry to use your review board like this, but I made it anon, so you can delete it later. I'll write a real review to make up for it, too.
Please don't try and get me to read canon, I've too many people in real life trying to get me to do that as it is. I've started to, but I'm not terribly fond of it, I just like the characters. So please please please don't try to convince me, although I'm sure you mean well. You can now feel free to delete this message, and I'm gonna go write a real review now. _
