This *so* reminds me of Kirk and Spock playing chess. Kirk unorthodox, illogical moves keep confounding and defeating Spock. We get hung up on Illya, but you underestimate Napoleon at your own risk!

Like this one! So happy to see someone acknowledge that -- as was shown during ALEXANDER THE GREATER AFFAIR -- Napoleon is the expert chessplayer. Always bothered me when fanfic writers insist on making Illya the best at absolutely everything and thus can't concede Napoleon this particular mastery. Nicely written piece!

Heh! Priceless, as usual. Can't imagine Illya loosing at chess against anyone, never mind Napoleon. On the other hand, his namesake did invade Russia...

The Climate of Negatives, A friendly Game is excellent.

The characters are so well spoken and played. Illya's grumbling about after all his reading he was still being beaten. Good delay on letting us know it Napoleon he was playing.

I know you didn't mean that to hurt, but you did it so well, portraying the beauty and wonder of the one type of music I can never learn to play. No other writer has ever done that to me with the same force and power as the music they described.
