TheInternetEnrichmentSociety 2009-06-26 . chapter 1 The story 'Tara, Tetris and Tea' is a sparkling gem reflecting the vibrant period of Existientialists like Sartre, Cronenberg and Mamoru Oshii.
The fast paced dialogue leaves the entire setting to the imagination of the reader, we a drawn into the simplistic suburban environment of Tara, a young girl with a tragic addiction to the game Tetris. We are lead to assume this girl has an underlying health condition which keeps her cut off from the rest of society and tragically ending her life.
The use of hallucinatory voices during the middle and again at the end of the plot leaves us with a lingering suggestion that there may be immortality found in ones achievements, in this case the girl Tara desires to achieve a high score in Tetris before her malignant health problems get the better of her.
Over all we are left with a feeling of sorrow for the mother, but happiness for the girl. We are relieved that Tara will live on in the game, even if the game only exists in the collective consciousness of her loved ones. |
