In DH one feels that Severus is condemned to indifference and loneliness even after his death: nobody to cry for him among the living and, beyond the veil, nobody to wait for him to thank him and to finally forgiving each other.
Your story makes justice for all those who in life never received gratitude and love, no matter how much they sacrifice themselves.
Although Snape’s portrait is the proof that he is really dead and the end of our hopes, to me the final is like a happy ending. Hermione has learnt to live alone (and at least for her, it’s been a choice), serene and confident that she will find again what she lost.
