 zorrie 2009-05-05 . chapter 1oh my GOODNESS.
that was just... stunning. it really began to pick up steam and by the end, everything came together so wonderfully - and the last lines hit like a ton of bricks.
i loved the cameraderie, which is adorable. the little things you throw in, like Near overhearing the two of them and deciding Mello's too distracted to usurp the number one spot, are great. and the insights into Matt's mind are completely on the mark, in my opinion. :)
and you totally have some stellar lines:
"Mello's life has slowed down.
During their last night together, it's clear that he has accepted that it's about to come to a complete halt."
this bit, and everything after it, is unspeakably brilliant.
the way you glimpse Matt's thoughts as he steps out of the car is FANTASTIC, because i haven't read anything so far that makes this much sense of his actions. that his car is a gift from Mello is also a nice touch, but, holy cow:
"Then again, if Mello's certain he's not going to make it out alive, why not? Shot down in the middle of the road in front of crowds of people: he'll probably get on the news. Maybe cause an international incident, what with one of Britain's finest being gunned down in Japan. He could even become an Internet meme -- he smiles at that thought."
trust Matt to be thinking about his legacy as an internet meme at a time like that. and oh my GOD it's just... so completely him.
and, although this is probably an obnoxiously long review, i have to quote that line at the end - "Near had better catch Kira after all this, because Matt's doing this for Mello and Mello's doing this for Near (although he'd never admit to it), because the children of Wammy's House are good kids, underneath it all."
flawless. i loved it. really, amazing. :D |
