SchwaWarrior 2009-05-07 . chapter 1What? Not a single review? Shame... People don't know what they're missing.
Generally I describe each individual fanfiction in one word, if I can help it. This one? *EPIC*. Truly, literally and at its core, pure EPIC. This story is the physical, literary embodiment and epitome of EPIC. And there are very, very, very few stories, fanfiction or not, which I can say this about-- I mostly reserve this word for very specific types of anime that are true masters of their genre. But this? You've earned it. This story has earned it. Pure EPIC.
See, it's a unique story. The central point isn't the action sequence, and that's unusual for Pokemon fiction. I'd say this story's true greatness lies in the images painted by the time and setting you've described, and the absolutely flawless MANNER you've described it with. You weren't overly descriptive, you weren't too UN-descriptive, you used perfect balance-- and also perfect *word choices* that followed the same pattern. It takes a certain kind of author with a special, widely-coveted touch in his literature to get that to work. How many times did you revise this piece? I'm quite impressed with you as a writer!
There's another, perhaps even bigger golden lining to this work of art, and that is the allegory you used. The story, as a whole, is symbolic, and that there always speaks to my heart when I see it in fanfiction. None of that pairing shit that plagues this supposed gallery of creativity we call , but genuine, quality symbolism that provokes deep thought, paints a very real image in our minds so that we enjoy and appreciate it, and really depicts the way you see a world such as the Pokemon World-- EXPRESSION, which is literature at its core; the communication of your personal world to the world beyond. This here is art, my friend. It's art.
Third, a rather minor thing but I enjoyed it nonetheless-- your theories in the first little mini-section of the fic (with Groudon and Kyogre and the things before and after it) are pretty cool and intriguing! Definitely an awesome, out-of-the-box way of looking at these parts of the Pokemon World, one I hadn't even considered, and it's a pretty great and amazing feeling to have my viewpoints expanded like that. Thank you! :)
I don't see a thing in here I would change. Maybe some of the sentence structures, but that doesn't even count-- that there is just a question of personal writing style, and one of my life's rules is that's one aspect of literature I don't judge. I judge the content, you know, the meat. And tonight I thoroughly loved and approve of what I've experienced through the unlocked powers of your mind and pen.
